Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is *planning a *summer clear-out as part of phase two of his rebuild. The Irishman could dump up to five of his current first-team squad to make space for new signings. Goalkeeper Pepe Reina, defenders Martin Skrtel and Jose Enrique, and midfielders Jordan Henderson and Stewart Downing are all in danger of the axe. All five started Liverpoolâs 2-0 Europa League defeat at Zenit St *Petersburg, which underlined the fact more changes need to be made. Liverpool will also let *Sebastian Coates leave and look for a buyer for *Andy Carroll, who has been on loan at West Ham. Rodgers will hope the sales will help him fend off bids for Luis Suarez â and sign more players of his own. An Anfield source told Sunday Mirror Sport: âThe manager has now *imprinted his style of play on the club, but next season will be more important in terms of results. âThere are a lot of talented players at Liverpool, but the club needs people with strong mentalities who can *perform under pressure.â I'd love to see Hendo back. He has all the energy in the world and would compliment our rather slow midfield. Bring back Henderson!
Don't think Jorden can improve us. it would throw up the old argument that Liverpool inherited from us. where to play him. Plus he's worth about 5m and about 15 to 20k in wages. neither Liverpool or Jordan would be on board with that. Skirtle? I'd take him.
We sold Henderson to Liverpool, Liverpool decide Henderson isn't good enough for them, so we take him back? It might be worthwhile mentioning that Liverpool are only 9th in the league this season and if Henderson isn't good enough for them, why should we 'take him back'? The fans were split 50/50 down the middle of whether Henderson was good enough or not for SAFC. Endless arguements each week of "He isn't good enough" or "You lot just don't like to see a local lad do well for himself". I really don't wish to see a return to that, because that is what would be likely to happen. If Henderson isn't good enough for a 9th placed Liverpool then he isn't good enough for an ambitious Sunderland.
I don't think Henderson will improve the current team, nor would Downing but i'd take Enrique on the cheap as back up for young Danny.
Henderson has really improved this season and certainly in recent months, I'd certainly take him back if we could get him for cheap.
As always, depends on the money they'd be asking. I'd pay £6-7m for Jordan and similar for Downing. Would they take £14m for both when they paid more than that for JH by himself? He hasn't got any worse, but it's their silly money offer that would screw any deal up, if they try and recoup their original outlay.
That would make you wonder why Liverpool would wish to sell Henderson on the cheap. If Henderson has significantly improved and Liverpool thought he was worth paying £17 million for prior to this improvement, why would they be looking to sell Henderson on the cheap. Doesn't make any sense to me. The only reason Liverpool would be looking to sell a long-term investment so quickly and at a significant loss is because they have determined that he isn't good enough. Hence if Henderson isn't good enough for a 9th placed Liverpool, why will he been good enough for SAFC? Bearing in mind our budget for this summer, I think it would be madness to re-sign a player that Liverpool have determined is not good enough. If the rumours of Liverpool wanting to sell are correct, this vindicates all of the fans who had originally suggested that Henderson wasn't good enough for SAFC.
I agree with McBardo Henderson has improved greatly this season, you've got to remember Rogers didn't sign any of the named players
He still divides opinions then. Hendo was never going to be a shoe in replacement for an ageing Gerrard , and he would probably admit that the fee was grossly inflated. Wrong player, wrong price , not his fault. But at the right price he'd be a decent player for us. Don't forget he was playing for England not very long ago.
I don't see how a player that having previously played for England whom no longer plays for England, a player that having left SAFC for Liverpool and could be about to leave Liverpool because they have determined that he quite simply isn't good enough, a player that divided opinion at SAFC amongst the fans via endless arguements before he left, will be a positive step forward. At a push I'd be willing to pay £3.75 - 4 million for Henderson. Anything more will be a case of Liverpool trying to recoup their inflated payment to SAFC. Henderson wasn't worth £17 million then and neither is he worth £7 million today. If Liverpool want to sell, force them to accept our price on our terms. Perhaps SAFC have created a charitable foundation in order to secure the return for all players born in the North East who wish to return to the North East? I won't be overly impressed if Henderson becomes a summer signing for SAFC.
Yep, he's been much, much better when I've seen him, and I'd like us to take him back around the £6million mark.
If Henderson is much much better, why has he dropped out of the England picture and why would Liverpool be willing to sell him for a £10+ million loss?
I really don't think Liverpool are looking to sell him. Like already mentioned, he has come on leaps and bounds this season, won the fans over and ousted Joe Allen from the team.
