Some of us at some time or other have been behind the wheel of a weapon of a car, but most of us spend most of our lives travelling in **** mobiles. So what was you favourite car you've owned. Mine was my first, a Cortina 440, a 1965, four door model with a 1500 engine. I flogged that car and it never whimped out. A party machine.
1983 model Jaguar XJ6, 4.2 litre engine with two 16 gallon tanks. Drank more than I did, and in those days that was a lot. When you put your foot on the gas, you could see the petrol gauges flicker like a guttering candle as she burnt off fuel faster than Apollo 13. Used to cost me 50 quid to pick the kids up from school, but my god she was a thing of great beauty. Emptied my wallet, then broke my heart when they came to tow her away. Oh, and the electrics were truly ****, a tribute to the shoddiness of British manufacturing at the time. She had those ceramic fuses that kept going pop and falling out; every time you changed radio stations, the indicators flashed. God, I loved that car.
Very nice mate. You'll probably live with memory until the day you die. Thank God it didn't put you in the ground.
I had a trio of classic British sports cars back in the day. First was a Triumph TR5 which I bought when I was 17, replaced with a 3.8 litre E-Type Jaguar Roadster when I was 19. But my pride and joy was an Aston Martin DB5 which I bought when I was 21 and regrettably sold in 1985 after seven years of motoring bliss.
Had an MG midget for about a month. Loved it even though the gearbox was full of sand, but there was nothing more exciting for a teenager than driving an open top sports car, especially on the Autobahn. I thought I was the coolest **** on the planet.
I once had a ride in a midget as a teenager Dev. My 16 year old mate took his mother's car for a run one night. I know a little of how must have felt.

Cortina Savage. A Mk2 Cortina GT fitted with a 3 litre V6 mangle.Bought it off an RAF Lightning pilot who reckoned it scared him more than his plane,275 quid in 1973.
Lancia delta integrale ... I loved it but alas it loved a big stone wall on a ****ty bend on a country road
29 year old Peogot 404, big buctket seats and smooth as you want -a bit quiky too (column steering in the 90's?) ... please log in to view this image It narrowly beats a 4 year old one of these in ammaculate condition please log in to view this image
I have only ever driven one car in my life and that includes driving lessons and test. My 1998 Corsa is the best £6k I've ever spent. I bought her brand new with something silly like eleven miles on the clock. Now she has 155k on the clock and is still going strong. Never broken down, never had to change the clutch or gearbox - just new tyres and the odd exhaust. Last year she got me to Cornwall, Wales, Scotland, Cumbria and back without a problem. Now, though, with the kids getting bigger, I really need to think about upgrading. Plus, every week or so, I need to wind back the clutch cable, otherwise the gears crunch, especially reverse. I also have to decide whether to keep the old girl for posterity, or scrap her. Finance would play a big part in any decision. Are there any decent Vauxhall people-carriers on the market? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
