Charlie said he liked the way we played the high pressing game, Tomo said we deserved to beat man city,Merson said if lambert had more pace he would get picked for England. And Jeff said " looks like Cortese might have been right.....eh Matt?" Of which Matt smiled and said nothing. All these comments were said after Poch interview, in which he said he liked sir Alex's comments and to achieve his style play the players have to play for each other and have a desire to win, and basically covered the barca trip as team bonding for each other and to him. That's all I can remember for now.....maybe someone like DTLW can find the interview and put in on here.

Actually, yes. However one thing that he keeps banging on about, which really annoys me, is that he doesn't understand why Adkins occasionally left Lambert on the bench. It was a strategy that clearly worked, so I have no idea why he's still bringing it up. Overall, though, he said that Poch has been impressive and probably improved the side. I can see an apology on the horizon.
Yes, considering it is in the past, I can't see the point of him pursuing it either. But clearly, it was all about impact. I'm surprised MLT doesn't get it. I can understand it if he says he wouldn't use the tactic, but to not understand it seems a little naive to me. I was of the opinion that Matty was one of the smarter pundits too.
Well I guess there's a reason he never pursued coaching or management. I don't think he has the best tactical mind. It's a good thing he was talented enough to play in a free role and basically disregard tactics.
I'm steadfastly refusing to get too emotionally attached to him as he will probably be just another rung on the ladder in The Don's masterplan, but that doesn't mean that that I have not been impressed by his football philosophy and management and his personality, even after this short time.

He might be saying as if Nigel didn't help himself by just starting Lambo each game. Just leaves the door open for criticism. Still find it a strange thing to say, but to not understand it is just bizarre......it was a tactic that worked for the team on occasions.
I agree with Le Tissier about not leaving Lambert on the bench. 4-1 loss to West Ham 3-2 loss to Man City. 2-2 draw with Chelsea. One point from three games... Tell me of other managers that uses a tactic that means their best and most influential player is on the bench for the first hour of the game? Do teams that park the bus at Camp Nou leave their best player on the bench often? I think it's a **** tactic especially for a player that isn't pacey. The point in a sub is fresh legs and pace. What's the point of him sitting on the bench if he isn't going to have an impact in that sense. His goals against City and Chelsea were about skill and ability as well as a change in the tactics and formation for the team which meant the striker got more support. Had he been in the game or jogging on a treadmill from the first minute he'd have still got those two goals. Him being fresh wasn't a relevant factor in the goals. What some of you don't seem to understand is going behind then going ultra attack because you then have nothing to lose when bringing Lambert on is completely nonsensical. You can do that at the very start of the match when the scores are even. Adkins was essentially giving away a lead then bringing Lambert on, going ultra attack and thinking it was a valid tactic. Surely it's best to go for broke or be more attacking and positive when the scores are level? You can then park the bus and try to win or draw. Or keep attacking and stay on the front foot. Where Adkins strategy is likely to end in a loss and occasionally a draw..
You're right, I totally didn't understand that. Please explain in greater detail the underpinnings behind your theory of how going behind entails needing more goals than your opposition because I thought it was just the opposite and I'm sure everyone else did as well. This could revolutionize the game!
