Nicola Cortese has probably said to him ok you can have your statutory £1 million to leave or have £2 million, to leave and keep quiet.
Indeed. I shall never forget Pardew's contribution. That JPT competition was such fun, and showed to the football world that Saints had plenty of fervent fans too. AP turned the ship around [no bus in those days] and got Saints winning again. The phrase winning mentality was actually used by him before anyone else at Southampton FC.
Talking would just make him as bad as the rest of them! As much as he helped us, we helped him, his repuatation is far greater than what it was before he joined us. He is aot stupid and will realise this, and get on with his career, as a professional.
I think Nigel is too muhc of a decent chapt to say anything stupid. Seems fair more professional that way than to Oprah-it-up.
Wow, talk about being judgemental. On the wider point. The facts are very simple, neither pardew or Adkins will say a thing , not because one is nice or one is dislikable, purely and simply because both signed NDA as part of their settlement. It is not just Nicola who insists on this but nearly every club. Only 3 managers have taken us into the top flight and although way below Ted & lawrie, Nigel will be remembered for that achievement. Pardew set us on the way and Nigel finished the job fantastically.
Having read many of your comments you seem to be happy to be quite judgemental about poor old Pompey.
PLEASE NOT LEEDS http://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/378201/Nigel-Adkins-lined-up-for-Leeds I would really like to see Nigel do well at his next job but i don think i could find it in myself to see leeds doing well
Same here. Is it possible though, that Nigel could turn the league's boo-boys into every other person's second favourite team..? Now that be a task too far, for even our Nige.
I,m looking forward to Nigel returning to SMS with his team, perhaps in a cup, so we can thank him properly ....before thrashing him.
Not necessarily, he's the fans favourite and GFH have been talking up how they want a young manager who plays good football. I think he'd be a great fit for where the club wants to go after Colin.
You offer him the job in May, with transfer funds thrown in, and I can see him accepting. You offer him the job next week, and you might be disappointed.
I hope we do get the chance.I'm going to write to him when he gets a new job wishing him well and thanking him for some great memories.
He'd be a breath of fresh air after any manager. After Colin he'd be a howling gale. If you do get him, you can consider yourselves VERY lucky. I've only met a small handful of people who were even neutral about him in Southampton, let alone negative. I got the same impression whenever I read about what the Scunny fans thought of him. He's just ... well.. likeable. Then, on top of that, he's clearly got what it takes to get teams up the leagues. As someone above said, you could even find yourselves liked if he sticks around for a while... Vin
Much as I dislike Leeds I think he'd do an excellent job there and it's a club that has the history, fan base and potential to turn him into the managerial force that he could potentially be. It will make my skin itch, but good luck to him if it's to be that.
Reports going round now that the owners of Leeds United (GFH Capital), have contacted Nigel Adkins in the last couple of hours.
Hope that GFH are prepared to back him financially. Couldn't ask for a better man to try to get them back, but it won't do his career much good if he's the sunny face out front while Leeds continues to sell off their best players.
