He's nowhere near an all time United XI but he is a massively underrated player. While "better" players have been basking in adulation, Carrick has been the most consistently selected central midfielder in a United team that has done OK over the past 6 or 7 years. That Fergie's clueless.
Few players are. Imo Carrick is as good as any CM playing in the PL at the moment, except Ramires, Yaya and Cazorla. He's one of the main reasons we've stayed at the top for as long as we have. Long may other fans and teams underrate him, to their own downfall Tho' I doubt he'll go down as a Utd great - Scholes, Keane, Robson and Charlton are all a long way ahead in CM and there are others such as Ince who were also handy.
Didi Hamann said he was the best holding midfielder in England by a mile and he can't understand why he doesn't start for Egnland, I think he has a point.
He seems to have added something to his game over the last two seasons. Maybe he has finally stepped out of Scholes' shadow and people are not comparing him to Keane or Scholes (as often).
