I looked for the positives, truly I did. We appeared to retain possession reasonably well, even managing to pass the ball around on the ground. We just seemed to lack the initiative to produce any forceful attacks on the opposition goal. It appeared as though Paulo Gazzaniga had been instructed to play the ball out to the back four but we seemed to lack any individual initiative or ability to bring it forward from there. Please hurry back Gavin Tomlin, I am now starting to feel the pain of your injury as if it were my own. In the first half the only player that caught my attention was the Daggers number 19 Abu Ogogo, so it was ironic when Brian Woodhall scored after following up an excellent effort on goal by Ogogo to put the visitors 0-1 up. By half-time it did not feel as though we were anything like play-off contenders and it just brings back memories of matches gone before in denying reality and attempting to believe the dream. Every time another play-off contender slips up, it just goes and breaths more belief in an attempt to keep the faith. Just minutes in to the second half, Gazza pulls off a good save to prevent the hosts from falling further behind. Then before the hour mark Gillingham striker Rowan Vine collected the ball and moving towards the Dagenham goal, you just felt at that moment if he unleashed a shot there was only going to be one outcome...GOAL 1-1. Probably would have been a fair result a share of the points on reflection, however, Dagenham had other ideas and were to have the final say with probably the best goal of the game, when Dominic Green who had not been on the pitch for not much more than ten minutes, completely sliced through the Gills midfield, before taking a shot from just outside the box, goal 1-2, the Gillingham fans were stunned in to silence. We criticise players for picking up some silly cautions throughout the season, so why just stand on this occasion and watch while the opposition tear through the middle of you? Surely due one soon, anyway in other news my nephew is coming with me to this game, this is his fourth game and third this season his first game was a 4-1 win, second game was a 4-0 win in the cup, third was 2-2 draw against Fleetwood so hopefully he will bring us some goal luck again.
