  1. Not fussed either way, but can see some logic in the decision and not just a sentimental one to keep Brad happy.

We do need two keepers to be 'match fit' these days and as has been mentioned, if we play Gallas and a deeper defensive pattern, then playing Friedel is less of a concern. Also, (and it is an argument that would be blown out of the water if Lloris plays in the return) there may be an element that Lyons know all about Hugo and any weaknesses they might seek to exploit.

But to consider that playing Brad, who is still a top PL keeper, would be potentially linked to match-fixing is just plain daft!!

Edit: and to play Brad in the home leg when we are more likely to be on the front foot would also appear to make some sense

BEst wishes to the lads tonight - Here's hoping we can win it.

It might surprise some that I can see the logic of playing Brad, I don't agree with it, but I can see the attraction.

I just fear that Gallas and Brad are too old for this level now.

Hope I'm wrong, and we get away with it over the two legs.

I think Clint should play instead of Siggy, he's more likely to score and we need goals.

After all the information provided in particular by Boss, THFC6061 and notsosmartspur no one has provided the time of the kick off. My chance at last to make a positive contribution to this thread. Using all my vast and multifarious computer skills enables me to contribute on a similar level to afore mentioned Gentlemen.

Luckly its on ITV1 as im out in the middle of nowhere in scotland tonight and can only pick up a few freeview channels.

If we manage to get through i hope we face the chavs or a madrid in the next round as thats the only way Villas Boas will take the tie serious.

It's already been drawn. We've got Inter or Cluj. So, Inter.

Ah so it has! Inter are having a good league season arent they?

I would assume Levy made it clear we need champions league football which is why squad players are used but if we get to the later stages and face a big club in form then Villas boas would have to play our strongest team.

    Cheers.

It looks strong on paper but for me the three possible weak areas are gallas, brad and dempsey.

I agree but I still think we should have enough to win this and hopefully be at least 2 clear goals. What channel is it on tonight?

my real worry was that we would see livermore, siggy, naughton starting aswell as brad and gallas so am feeling more confident.

also be interesting to see if ade and dempsey work well together and if bale drifts to the centre, that allows demps to move to the left.

I remember Ade and Dempsey playing one-twos to each other very comfortably last time I saw them play together, one of which resulted in a Dempsey goal.

I'm a little surprised we're starting Gallas. I'd think we'd start him next week, and play Dawson today. I'd also rather have Gylfi or Holtby than Dempsey, but overall it's not a surprising team.

The selection dilemma will be next week. It will be very tempting to rest key players ahead of the West Ham game. I'm thinking Dembele, and I wouldn't be surprised if Vertonghen, Adebayor and just maybe Parker, Lennon and/or Bale don't start. Holtby and Gylfi, I think, should start. I'm hoping we see Carroll.

Hopefully a comfortable win tonight means we can rest players or at least take them off after 60 minutes next week. However we support Spurs this doesn't happen very often!
