From Echo site, SRL says he and his family love it here and he wants to finish his career at Saints. Says he has enjoyed the three anda half years at Southampton. We do keep mentioning his age, but look at Ryan Giggs. Careers can be so much longer now. Does anyone know how long his contract is?

Best person to compare him to is Teddy Sheringham. Similar that they are both clever players with no pace to lose. Sheringham joined Man Utd at 31, so this could just be the begining for our Rickie.

Rickie won't last as long as Giggs. He's got a big frame on him, but I think he can continue to the level he is now for another couple of seasons, although maybe being used more from the bench. Would be brilliant if he can equal Ron Davies saints goal scoring record.

What an unbelievable player he has been for us. His fantastic performances and goal scoring record in a saints shirt will live long in the memory. It's great for us and Rickie himself that his form coincides with a successful period in saints history making it all the more sweeter.

The comparison with Sheringham is a good one on the face of it, it's true that Lambert doesn't really have any pace to lose, but his physique is quite different to Sheringham's and I can't see him playing until he's 40. I think he seems to be struggling to last the 90 right now in many games, however, he's shown himself to be a terrific impact sub so even if he can't play full games in future he's definitely worth keeping around for a few years yet.

BBC SPORT has the Rickie story on it but also has "Southampton's former Rangers skipper Steven Davis reveals he would like to return to Ibrox one day. "I loved the club and the fans but I had to take a decision which was best for me, my family and the remainder of my career," the 28-year-old Northern Ireland international says". "If everything goes to the plan I have in my head I'd like to come back and play for the club again before my career ends."

Good point. Sheringham was always quite slender unlike Rickie but as an impact sub, your right, he has a good few years left in him yet. I dont hold not lasting 90 minutes a game against him though. Mo Farrah couldn't last that the way they are made to play now. <laugh>

Have no problem with his statement at least it's honest and dosnt mean he will not give his best while at saints ,plus he hasn't been here long so will probably have different views in a few years time when playing in the champions league with saints

Most of our players support other teams...doesn't affect the 100% they give for us.

Davis isn't likely to want to go back to Rangers until they are back in the SPL, which will take at least 2 more seasons. We will probably be in a position to let him go by then as JWP will be first choice in his position, with Ramirez and Messi as backup.

As for Sir Rickie of Lambertshire, we knew a couple of years ago he was a Saints-till-I-die man, but it's great to hear him say it again.

I know Allardyce is not to everyone's taste, but he's not Redknapp <laugh>

I agree, he is talking about the latter stage of his career, not of his present situation, remembering where Rangers are at the moment, an experienced hand will be needed to help them get back to where they want to be!

Don't see why Rickie shouldn't have a few more years left. He never really looked like tiring on Saturday, and he didn't stop running. I reckon he's the fittest he's ever been.

Indeed, he's not Redknapp. For one, he's devoid of a sense of humour. ;)
