Would anyone like to hazard a guess as to what's gone on here?

    http://www.cafc.co.uk/news/article/...zquierdo-joins-new-york-red-bulls-646065.aspx

Last I heard, he was training with the Red Bulls with a view to a loan, now he's 'recently been released by the club' and he's gone.

Good luck Reuben and don't forget to fill in your membership form for the 'Prematurely Released by CAFC' club - you'll be in good company.

    Unbelievable.

Saw this a couple of days ago and thought it was a trifle odd. I've not seen RB but most of those who have were fairly positive. Guess he was further away from the team than we thought or earning more money then we thought.

Not surprised since he was a slight but cultured player who couldnt force his way into the team in the physical leagues that make up the championship and previously league 1. i fear that Tewkes is right and this will be one that got away.

We have a limited wages budget and we have reached that limit, the only way the Good Doctor can bring anybody in is to remove other players from the club. People like Kerkar are of no interest to other clubs, so the fringe players we are able to get off the payroll, are players that other clubs see some potential in.

RBI, Greeny, Hollands & Bradders are the sort of non-core players that may have to be released/loaned out to free up wages...... I can't believe Chris likes making these type of decisions BUT he obviously feels we need strengthening in certain areas to retain Championship status so that is fine (if sad) by me.

You do write some odd things sometimes.Look back on my previous posts re Bover. You will see that I have said that he is not good enough. He is too slight, can't tackle is not very quick, his passing is not brilliant.HE IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH,that is why he has been released.I have seen him a number of times in friendlies and for the U21s,so I feel that I can give an opinion on him.Out of interest how many times have you seen him Tewkesbury?

The last time I saw him play for the under-21's he had a very good game apart from one howler in the first minute which nearly cost us a goal. It's true that he can't tackle but in to-day's game that's not as important as it once was. His intelligent movement and passing made me wonder how he'd do at a higher level, but now we won't find out.

Five times, dick - is that enough to pass an opinion?

I value your opinion, although it differs from mine.

Yeah, I do write some odd things, that's the freedom you get when you post on not606.

To be honest dick, I'm struggling to see why Tewkes writes "odd things". You've both seen him the same amount of times- he rates him, you don't. Nothing odd about differing opinions.

Had he stayed, he would have simply blocked one of our younger, and therefore more promising, players from getting a game. He seems more suited to US soccer. I hope he flourishes there, but even if he does, it wouldn't mean he could cut it in the more physical English game.

We have far too many professionals on our books. Some on good wages won't want to leave until their contracts run out (Kerkar, Cook, Sullivan, Smith, etc). Any we can shed before that happens, so much the better.

I liked Bover, he has something in his locker but I have to agree with Dick on this one. Think he lacks strength to compete in the Championship, never know I could be proven wrong...

Is he better technically or more intelligent than say Jackson or Stephens? The few times I saw him he was tidy and comfortable on the ball, rather than being a really creative/skilful player.

When he first came in I thought we might see him come off the bench in League 1. In the end we signed a lot of players and he couldn't break through.

Hope he does well, doubt he'll be "one that got away".

The Championship and Premiership are full of athletic players. The template is usually big athletic players. There are exceptions to the rule but if you are smaller you need something else in your locker,ie an eye for a goal, good dribbling ability, tenacious and a good engine.Bover has decent technical ability as you would expect being brought up by a Spanish Club,Mallorca. But he hasn't got enough attributes that would make it in the Championship.I think Powell and his staff had a good look at him, even making him U21 Captain and decided he wouldn't make it.I trust Powell's judgement on this.
