I'm with you on that Hornette - they are the only team of the 4 that I have any affection for, although it means missing a good day out. But hopefully replaced by Bournemouth - come on you Cherries...

Yes Hornette Charlton away, another great day out. Long session in The Market Porter in Borough Market first (plus a visit to the oyster stall there) and then the train into deepest Sarf Lundun....love that day out as well and miss it.

I don't understand how Reading have been forgiven by some Watford fans so quickly. They stole our manager - knowing exactly what they were doing and that he was under contract and then the shabby bunch gave him 4 months to prove himself. They are as bad - no worse than BR - at least he was going back to a club at his heart - much like Malky would be if he went to Norwich - his only real error was his "integrity" comment - not what he actually did.

Hope Reading fail and get relegated next year :)

    Evening All,

Has anything happened while I have been taking a little exercise? Managed a few lengths of the pool this afternoon and then became sun dried like a tomato. If you can imagine a whale making steady progress up and down a swimming pool, with occasional stops to draw breath then you have a reasonable picture of what I looked like.

Having decided tonight that we would order in a pizza there then comes the task of choosing the correct wine to go with it. Having settled on Costières de Nimes, a southern rosé, chilled slightly but not too much, all that remains is to open it, try it, then drink some.

It was at this point that the whole thing went wrong. The corkscrew that had been supplied broke. It didn't just break in a reasonable fashion, but the screw into cork piece snapped and sunk gracefully to the bottom of the bottle taking plenty of small pieces of cork with it. <yikes>

I will of course demand recompense for a spoilt bottle of wine as well as a new cork screw tomorrow. It would seem that the opening wine bottle without a corkscrew is due for another airing. I remember a shoe and a wall came into it, but can I try another bottle that could be ruined if I get it wrong?

Anyone have any ideas what additional minerals I am taking in with my screw at the bottom of the bottle?

Boo..Swansea are 2 up...they are signing The Land of My Fathers - I suppose they will demand to sing it at Wembley as well...

Lenny as far as I am concerned Reading are the least worst of the 4...Welsh teams should not be allowed in the English leagues anyway and Notts Forrest are just as popular with Billy Davies in charge....at least Reading sacked Judas and Reading fans dislike him as much as us

I know I shouldn't say this, but I find this forum (the Watford bit, I don't read the rest) such a delight to read because of quality of English. No one uses text speak and most of us seem to know when to use the future subjunctive tense. This makes an old fogey, like me, happy. We are also tolerant of typos. Thank you to everyone

Morning NZ - I hate text speak written on forums, FB etc as well.
But you've lost me on the future subjunctive tense part....I don't seem to recall that bit from O Level English, mind you that was nearly 40 years ago!

Obviously the future subjunctive tense in Modern English is easily distinguished in a variety of contexts in which the present subjunctive is used where the sense is past tense. Regardless of the subject, the form of the present subjunctive verb is the infinitive unpreceded by "to". Hence, the subjunctive of "to go" is "I go", "you go", "he/she/it go", "we go", "they go". For instance: "It was required that we go to the back of the line." Compare with the indicative: "Everyone knows that we went to the back of the line."

    As any fule kno....................

    Hello to you all.

I have been reading your posts on the old 606 and now on here and for some reason the change of scene has tempted me to actually take part. Clearly I can't actually think of much to say but nevertheless!

Frenchie, just push the cork into the bottle. As its about to deseal tilt the bottle slightly and be cautious. then once its pushed free use a long thin item eg fork handle to submerge the cork and pour. Once the first glass is poured you can act as if it was opened ordinarily.
