It is difficult not to put this match into the old cliche of being....."a 6 pointer". Have been looking at the current form of the bottom six clubs. Bristol R...P6...W4...D1...L1...F11...A6...13pts...........played home & away. Aldershot...P6...W2...D3...L1...F6...A4...9pts...........playing away tomorrow Sat 9th Feb. AFC Wimbledon...P6...W2...D3...L1...F9...A10...9pts...........playing at home on Tues 26th Feb. Barnet...P6...W2...D1...L3...F6...A6...7pts...........playing at home Sat 2nd Mar. Plymouth A...P6...W1...D2...L3...F3...A8...5pts............................ Accrington S...P6...W1...D1...L4...F2...A11...4pts...........played home & away. Home games to play. Oxford....AFC Wimbledon....Barnet....Bradford....Fleetwood....Exeter....Cheltenham....Rotherham............maybe 10pts Away games to play. Aldershot....Northampton....Gillingham....Chesterfield....York....Burton A....Rochdale...........maybe 6pts. At present.....29pts.....add a possible 10 + 6.....gives a total of.....45pts for season......will it be enough.....I hope it is.
A defeat today against Aldershot would be a monumental disaster for Argyles survival in Div 2. Does Sheridan throw in his two un-used new players today from the start.....mid-fielder Lee Cox will possibly start, this is an area of Plymouth's team that has proved to be lacking in bite, support for the frontmen has been lacking up to now......with better delivery from mid-field the frontmen may prove that they are not as bad as it seems. Unlucky Gozie Ugwu has spent three quarters of his time here on the injured list.....he is pushing for a game today.....will Sheridan risk him from the start.....his options are limited with Chadwick still working off his long ban, Feeney out for awhile still injured and young Harvey not recovered from his knee knock as yet. Maybe Sheridan has to go for it today and play Ugwu.... if he is fit enough from the start. A win would be a big step forward today and would strengthen our superior goal difference compared with the teams around us. A defeat would be a serious knock back today.....so Sheridan has got to talk the game up.....Branston and Charles have something to prove against Aldershot and that might help to lift the pressure onto Aldershot's shoulders......they have a poor home record and find it hard to score at home......Argyle have a poor away record of course but things could be in Argyles favour today. It seems that the green army are travelling in good numbers today.....lets hope that they are the difference today.
We've only gone and won a match ... scoring two goals as well .... think I need to go lie down in a darkened room .... hopefully this is the start of our climb back up the table .... well done lads !
What a confidence boosting win that was today.........3pts making their league position more secure. Four games unbeaten now.....8pts from four games and momentum building.....can Sheridan keep it going ?
Unbeaten in four, yes, but with two very poor home draws in the middle of it. Until we start winning most our home games, especially against bottom half opposition as was the case, we won't be safe, let alone on the rise. Thank goodness for the win but it needs to be the start of something, not just an odd lucky win. "Some key incidents cost us. I think we deserved more from this game." Dean Holdsworth "It was a hard day at the office, but to come away with three points against a team who were in and around us is a great effort from the players" John Sheridan
Still unbeaten under Sheridan. under fletcher we would be rock bottom by now.. still a long way to go but we have seen improvement even if its a little...
Well, a pretty good run of matches in which to prove it's better: Oxford (15th) at home - needs to be 3 points Northampton (6th) away - may have to swallow a defeat there Wimbledon (24th) away - draw or win Barnet (22nd) home - needs to be 3 points The next few has Gillingham, Fleetwood, Southend, Chesterfield & Exeter in it, so I'd suggest it's now or never.
Oh you are an old grump notdistant. We took 4 points out of 6 before I went away and that as a return was thought to be quite acceptable. Whilst away we took another 4 from 6 so that can't suddenly become not acceptable. If that pattern continues pretty much then we would be well safe. 8 points from the last 12 wherever they were gained has to be an improvement on what we were getting. I would like to see the results reverse in that the points for win is at home and not away but I will take them from wherever they come. I'd just like to see the wins is all.
And you are suffering from a relapse into Greenitis, possibly due to exposure to a new manager. The points total is fine but you can't get away from the fact it includes 2 very poor results at home and at least one abysmal performance. Nobody expects us to put away top 6 sides away but not doing so to bottom third teams at home? Not good enough. And remember, we're supposed to be in the new manager honeymoon period.
Points are points fullstop. I don't expect it to be pretty. The home performances were terrible. The one I saw and the other my son commented on when I got back. But, to have lost them would have been much worse. It isn't green anything notdistant it is a fact of points gained out of the last 4 games. You like facts I know.
I do like facts but the biggest fact of the moment is that I'm still very very nervous about this season. Good home form needs to start today!
notDistant..... show some faith in our proper manager Sheridan.....opposed to are pretend manager Fletcher.....he's probably 5 or 6 pts to the good already.
And 0-1 down at half time versus mid-table Oxford, which would leave us back down in 21st. You may see an improvement because you want to, I don't yet, but I continue to hope.
I'm going to refrain from commenting again in future given every time I give them some credit they go and blow it away in the next match. Today was worse than bad.
