Woman's football is ****e, they should stick to what they're good at, such as starching and ironing Men's shirt collars. Not that I'd watch that... unless they were fit and naked.

Come on DS, chicks have moved on since the 1950's, they do a lot more than housework and do a lot of jobs better than men. I do agree that they're not built for football
, but are quite knowledgeable about the game. Its just that they can't play it, I wish people would stop pretending that they can.

Look at Jessica Ennis, what a bird, great sportswoman, nice arse and a lovely personality. My sportsperson of the year, so its not about women having to stay at home and wash up, but the fact that there are some sports left to blokes.

"Come on DS, chicks have moved on since the 1950's" - Yeah you're right, no need for starch now you can use a steam iron.

the standard of womens football before ww2 was high and it pulled in crowds much bigger than the mens games. Then the fa banned women from playing in 1921 TWATS

Twats is an awfully misogynist term to use.

Indeed, and apparently it was only from the 1980s that women were allowed to play in FA registered stadiums or whatever. Still, not much changes about the FA, they were idiots in the 20s and they're idiots now. You should like the Portsmouth Ladies team page, Jen, I created it a couple of months back and we need to break the 15 like barrier!

I see foul throws on the premier league every week! The refs just sort of over look it for the sake of a flowing game.

Also there's two good reasons why women goalies are no good. Something to do with them not able to bring the ball into their chest.

The US Women's team is more enjoyable than the US men's team to watch. The Japanese women's team is extremely fun. Lots of skill and good build up play. They are badly outsized so everyone on that team has to be "total football" to make up for it.

At the upper levels, I find women's football kind of interesting. The women GK's are smaller and therefore can't cover the same ground so I feel like it opens up more scoring possibilities. In general the field seems larger as the women are not quite as fast, smaller, and can't quite kick as far. So you can get a more open game with lots passing and one on one type challenges. I think most football fans wouldn't have a problem appreciating the play of Sinclair, Prinz, Marta, Wambach, Alex Morgan and players like that.

Unfortunately, the "upper levels" is pretty much confined to 3-4 countries and then a HUGE gap. The rest of the teams are honestly pretty awful not just in their lack of skills but also in the way they play. Lots of cheap shots and dirty tackles because they have no chance of stopping the elite players otherwise. And the officiating is *awful.* Even worse than Men's, which is not easy. A lot of the officials are men so I'm not saying women can't be refs.

I think as more and more women play, the soccer will be pretty good. It'll be different than men's just as women's tennis is different than men's but enjoyable in its own way. Any top 200 male could slaughter the best women's player but otoh, when the men play it's all big serves and quick points and not as much strategy and skill in the ground strokes. A lot of my friends prefer watching women's tennis and not just for the long legs and short skirts.

Chicks in football ,dear oh dear oh dear ,shows how the general public perceive football fans to be morons ,I got more comments picking me up on spelling Sharp,s name wrong than this op got for an unbelievably bad taste title,as for the question ,woman's football is improving and can be entertaining , let's face it you can go to a local park and see so some enjoyable games ,so the quality is not the only benchmark to judge a game of football on

Indeed. I couldn't believe it when I saw it. I was really hoping it was something to do with Blackburn Rovers and Venkys, but oh no.

If Jen or Fran complain, I'll, at least, change the title to Women in Football. I'm truly gobsmacked at the knuckle dragging, bone headed audacity of LD..!

Well I think the comments in this thread have demonstrated that women's football does have some appeal, and there are people who enjoy watching it. I'm not one of those people, but each to their own. Case closed as far as I'm concerned.

Chick is a term of endearment, a celebration of women.

There's no need to be rude and call me a bone head, that's a bit bone headed.

From the replies I would say there is quite an interest, but generally people think their shiete at it.

LD asks whether it's ok to watch a poor quality game of football just because the players are attractive. He refers to them as chicks. And then is amazed to be called a dinosaur or pervert.
It's a self-satirising post. I would take the piss but it's already done for me.

Wrt women's football, the standard is improving. I have only seen a couple of games on TV and what I noticed most was the absence of things which blight the modern game. It wasn't a great standard compared to Premiership mens but there was no diving, dissent, or stealing 20 yards every throw-in which made a refreshing change.

Since when did it become unacceptable to call birds chicks? Its a term of endearment not an insult.

"Call birds chicks" - 2 out of three words there really mark you out. In fact, are you actually Jim Davidson? That would explain things I guess. I was kind of hoping you were self-satirising in a slightly misguided way, but sadly it seems your 'brain' does work like this. Wow.
