From Mark Douglas in this mornings Journal:

"Meanwhile, United have no intention of allowing Liverpool to snatch Hatem Ben Arfa this summer – despite a clutch of Anfield links to the France

schemer. Well-briefed claims emanated from Merseyside yesterday morning that Ben Arfa will be one of Brendan Rodgers’ top targets in the summer, even using Andy Carroll as a potential makeweight in the deal.

But United are in no mood to do a deal on one of their star players – and if they do decide to reignite their interest in Carroll, it will be for cash up front."

    Incorrect.

    - Dempsey wasn't due to him being almost 30 not because LFC couldn't afford him. FSG don't wanna buy over 25s so if they do they won't let the transfer committee spend more than £3m on them as all that fee, plus their wages is wrote off as these players have little re-sale value to make some of the investment back.

    - Gerrard was complaining about this U25s transfer policy of FSG and felt the team needed some more experience added to it. Nothing to do with amount available to spend. A quick google will show you this point. Rodger's and Suarez also publicly made similar complaints as Gerrard.

    - Common misnomer that LFC are skint which has arisen from FSG not spending the money on Dempsey and BR not giving in to Sigurdsson's wage demands of £60,000 pw. Both of these nothing to do with lack of cash, it was the new transfer strategy post Comolli. LFC have already spent nearly £50m NET. this season in the 2 transfer windows. It is believed they will have the same amount to spend in Summer. FSG have significantly increased LFCs profit margin commercially so more to spend, plus player sales (Reina, Carroll, Downing) and new bigger TV deal money). Will offer upto £20m for HBA.

With respect, its in no way the same thing. You are just saying it is to fit your argument.

You posit the reason we didn't sign Dempsey was simply because we didn't have the money in the kitty to do so. This is demonstrably not true as after Dempsey we bid £15m for Sturridge but BR only wanted him on loan and DS only wanted a perm move.

It was singularly because he was too old. Finances, or lack thereof, did not come into it. LFC have plenty of cash as our transfer spending has demonstarted. We don't always spend it right, but its there none the less and if HBA agreed to move, our transfer committee wanted him that much and the price was £25m and they felt that was a fair price and told the owners such, that amount would be paid.

IF we really wanted him, and NUFC were willing to sell at a price, , and HBA wanted to move and did so and we didn't get him, it would because a bigger/richer/better club, like a Man City, Utd, Chelsea, PSG etc gazumped us, not that we couldn't afford it.

That isn't true. Its fabricated. he has been on record twice lately in Uruguay and here saying he's going nowhere.

Its funny how desperate some people are to see the back of him and then the disintegration of Liverpool, their going to be gutted come Sept 1st as I guarantee he'll still be here.

That's good. Ben Arfa will be 26 by the time the season ends and will cost a damn sight more than £3m.

If he goes, he goes. Another one I am happy to say has played in black and white, we still have our most important assets going out finding gems, so extra financing of that isn't such a bad thing.

Shame about the over 25 policy Liverpool have, because Graham Carr would improve their team enormously <ok>

... Did I say Graham? How silly of me, I meant Alan... His DVD will be in the bargain bins for a £5, so of course being Liverpool they'll nip down to the closing HMV and offer a few million extra to make sure they get it.

The Liverpool board have money but choose not to spend as they have a strategy which to be fair looking at previous overspending on over priced players Henderson downing etc,you can see why
Sturridge will be a decent signing

with regards to clint dempsey i think its a bit of both, liverpool were trying to keep the transfer fee down because A. they have overspent recently and cant really afford to pay a large amount and B. because they simply felt with dempsey clearly wanting to leave and his age they shouldnt need to offer a large amount. the feeling i get is liverpool thought the ball was very much in their court and they were wrong, hence rodgers comments that he wouldnt of let AC go on loan if he thought he wouldnt get Dempsey. with the amount of money liverpool have spent recently and the league positions they have acheived one thing is clear without taking tv deals, crowds etc into account they are spending crazy money for a team which have struggled to make europe and are almost certainly out of the champions league for the foreseeable future.

One thing is clear though liverpool could do with a slightly different transfer policy, personally i think they are a capable of playing brillaintly but are nowhere near consistant enough. and if they had a few injurys such as gerrard and suarez i think they would fall down the league table dramtically like we did when we lost cabaye, ben arfa and steven taylor. without trying to sound too smug i think we are the base model for any mid table/ pushing for europe club and liverpool are the exact opposite.

To be fair, Clint Dempsey joined the team in the better position. It's that simple. Anything else that goes with this story is purely speculation no matter how many people try to pass it off as a Rafa-style FACT.

After Brendan Rogers dribbled constant **** out of his stupid fat face all summer and told Newcastle they especially couldn't have Carroll on loan, he's dug his own grave. In the 1 in a million chance that Ben Arfa would actually want to play for this fat useless prat, Newcastle's hierarchy are in a position to publically humiliate Liverpool with the transfer fee, again.

I'd take Ben Arfa at United all day long but I have always had the impression he likes to be the biggest fish in the pond, so doubt he'd perform as well for us.

Gotta agree that Rodgers playing hardball wasn't clever.
He'll have to sell Carroll for a lot less now....

Everything in this post is proven lies. All you have to do is google and read what was said by the club on record and by those in the know. Dempsey waited all transfer window for us and turned down villa and an Italian club down as he preferred us and then we ****ed him around by waiting till the last min were FSG made it clear they wouldnt go above 3m which is why BR was so angry. This is proven fact for anyone who can read. Go and read Henry's statement from the day after we're he basically admits this.

Do you not have papers or the Internet where you live as all this is proven, as you would say, FACT.

But if you have an axe to grind against Liverpool don't let the truth get in the way of that or offer any credible evidence of your claims.

What's this weeks lotto numbers then please since you can see into the future?

We have every chance of top 4 next season. If you look at our form in the last 20 games after our poor start under the new manager we'd be 3rd.

We have better players now, we have plenty of money to spend and were playing good football now and look like the players are getting the system so there's no reason we can't fix that start next season, continue our form of late, and get top 4.

Lets face it, this season besides City and Utd no-one has looked special or dead Cerys for the top 4 so next season even Newcastle with their new signings could have a shot of it.

They will spend big money on the right player and if everyone on the transfer committee agrees the player is a must and under 25.
