Team to play Poland: David Forde; Paul McShane, John O'Shea, Ciaran Clark Greg Cunningham; Robbie Brady, James McCarthy, Glenn Whelan, James McClean, Shane Long, Connor Sammon. It's not great but there is a lot of injuries but no Wes Hoolahan and Shane McShane starting! Brian Kerr has a good article in The Irish Times this morning and he makes sense: http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/sport/2013/0206/1224329708014.html Ian Harte is not happy http://www.independent.ie/sport/soc...wn-in-astonishing-twitter-attack-3377324.html
Forde is the number one with Westwood not playing regular fitba. Trap knew who Harte is. I don't think we can accomodate a dead ball specialist tbh. Conor Sammon.... well
Perhaps if Harte was a better player and didnt miss important penalties he might have been selected <neverforgivenhimsmiley>
Just as i say that we score The point still stands though. Great save by Boruc. No defender reacted. Nice finish.
If Paul McShane never plays for us again I'll be a happy man. Everytime he goes near the ball he gives either a hospital pass or he gives it straight to a Pole.
A wee bit. Poland look disjointed now for some reason. Still loads of ball though. No harm to Sammon but this back to front stuff is brutal.
He's worked really hard to become everything he can be. Fair play for the effort but his touch is not good enough. Wes Hoolahan, a proper footballer sat on his arse waiting to get on whilst Sammon gets stuck in to aerial challenges. It is depressing.
We're lucky that Poland are having an off day in front of goal, though our defence (especially McShame)are doing their best to rectify that.
The more we slag them off, the better they do. That was a nice goal. You are right though. It is going to be tough against the swedes
You can see why Trap doesn't like Hoolahan very much. He likes to play football and run with the ball. Exactly the opposite of Trappatoni.
Senior players not picked ie they are playing against Sweden so Keane will start ahead of Long, the man that hasn't played ball for 3 months
Hoolahan really made is tick it was a joy to watch him last night, the players seemed to get a lift when he came on, if trap doesn’t start him against Sweden- I will know then that trap has lost his mind
Hoolahan definatly should be a starter for Ireland, proven in the Premier League now and a great link up player but the downside is Trap doesn't like that style of play. Also, Keane has been a great servant and alway's put in a good performance when needed but maybe his time is past now and appearing as an impact sub would be better to allow the younger lad's the chance to develop on the big stage.
