Not unless there's a lot of cash involved in the transaction too, and that might make MA think twice.

The reason why we didn't buy Dempsey wasn't because we couldn't afford him - it was because we didn't think he was worth anything over £4m.

The owners have a pretty strict policy on transfers and are willing to pay for exciting and young talent - £12m for Sturridge and £8m for Coutinho, not to mention the £15m for Allen and £10m for Borini in the summer.

Furthermore, Gerrard didn't slate the boards transfer policy of buying cheap players. He wanted the club to buy more experienced players.

I do like Ben Arfa but is he worth £20m plus? I'm not so sure and I think there are doubts over his fitness <ok>

I wonder if he even went outside the pub to write that one ?

As for Carroll, maybe we'd like him, maybe we wouldn't. if West Ham don't want him and Liverpool don't want him, I could see Liverpool and AC simply cnacelling the contract by mutual consent to save Liverpool the wage bill - - I cna't see anyone paying money for Carroll and picking up his wage bill. Be happy enough to pick up AC on a free, pay him a couple of million signing on bonus and then normal club wages. Can't see parting with serious dosh.

As for HBA, anyone who waives enough money in our direction can have him: that's the stated policyof the club. It won't be cheap. It is likely to be well invested. I like HBA but I could live with it.

The 'strict policy on transfers' came in after Dalglish/Comolli bankrolled Toons future.

Just on this story I really hope it doesn't happen, Ben Arfa's one of the flair players I hope will stay for years and years to come and make NUFC a real heavyweight entertaining club which players want to come to. Carroll we can manage without. It would be like selling a Ferrari to buy a horse and cart.

Ref gerrard its the same thing and the word on the street was they would not cough up the money
Granted they could afford that but were not willing to pay
Mike Ashley could buy a host of top players but would not due to over spending

The problem with selling Ben Arfa though is that he is invaluable. Even if we were to get £25m or more for him and that sum was reinvested... There just aren't many players in the world who can do what HBA can. With the new signings our team looks very good but if we add HBA into the mix he has that extra something that turns very good into amazing. I really believe that if we can keep Ben Arfa and Cabaye (and keep them fit) then next season should be extremely exciting and high achieving.

Are Newcastle becoming Liverpool's new feeder club ? Could well be , I can't see HBA gracing the Championship tbh. He'll definitely jump ship in the summer.

It's not that Newcastle are Liverpool's feeder club, it's that Liverpool are Newcastle's FFP compliant funder.

And you'er a bit late to draw any blood with the Championship wumline - - after Reading you might have got a bit of a rise but now our chances of playing in the Championsip next year are even lower than yours of playing in the Champions League.

Give my best to Jose - - always liked that lad

Anyway, didn't HBA say himself that he wanted to stay with us as long as the club showed ambition? Can't say we haven't done that this January! Our squad looks very strong and I'd be surprised if HBA wasn't looking forward to playing alongside Sissoko and Gouffran with a rejuvenated Cabaye behind them.
