Yeah I hear Jon's a lovely bloke, he helps my mates band, like an unofficial manager/tutor, they spend alot of time working together. He hates the current music industry and often rants about it on twitter (@Reverend_makers - same name as Revs new album).
Can anyone tell me whether or not the pub featured in this video is actually in Hull or not. If so, which one & where in Hull ? Thanks http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7_TMUJIWwyI
Any of you guys old enough to remember The Silkie ? Founded in Hull around 1963 or so. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7_TMUJIWwyI
Bollocks, copied the wrong clip....her's the right one of the Silkie http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=60K0r7VQ2G0
Sorry to bring this thread up again but my Hull band Mammal Hum got played on 6 music on Sunday (cerysmatthews show) and created a mini twitter buzz, plus sold a fair few albums on just one play - hoping to get a few more plays, strangly Frank Skinner has played a couple of tracks too - all of us are City fans, Leon being a season ticket holder I me going as ofter as possible (wife and kits permitting)...Thought I'd do another mention just in case you hadn't had a chance to listen, or you may just think we're crap - either way anyway single and album out now on Hull Label..
I'll definitely come and see you live if you have any gigs lined up in Hull. You should ping that track off to Steve Lamacq at 6 music too. He's always asking people on-air to send their tapes in.
Enjoyed that mate. You playing any gigs in Hull? Another good Hull group- Fila Brazilia
I saw Kingmaker play in London and have a couple of their cd's - they were excellent live and the records were good. Plus, I saw the Housemartins play Kilburn Ballroom - top night I remember them playing the Smiths in the warm up music and the whole crowd where singing along, or at least that is how I remember it! I remember being very excited buying London 0 Hull 4....happy days.
Thanks chaps - yes should have some dates coming up in a couple of months - either Fruit or Union Mash Up which is a good night - will keep you posted. Up the Tigers BTW I was at the Bradford City Match in the 80's, my first away match with my old man who is sadly not with us anymore - great memories though..
I'm sure there are some Oasis & Stone Roses fans on here. Total Stone Roses & Oaysis are playing @ Fruit on 1st March
Another good Hull group- Fila Brazilia
My close colleague was one half of Fila Brazilia ... so I'm inclined to agree with you Golaccio!
I'm off to Butlins 90's weekend in March for a Stag weekend. There are loads of tribute bands on ( Oasis , Blur, The Verve etc), and also a load of ****e aswell. About 20 of us are going, so it should be a laugh.
Lets have a think...starting off with The Rats who became the Spiders...not going to mention David Whitfield....The Housemartins who moprhed into The Beautiful South, Salako, Everything But The Girl, Lene Lovitch, Lithium Joe, Scarlet, Matthew Hogg, Kingmaker, Red Guitars, The Christians chief songwriter Henry Priestman was from Hull and formed The Yachts with Martin Watson. He also wrote Ideal World with Mark Herman, a city supporter. Back To Base, Fine Young Cannibals (often used to see Roland in the hairdressers in Paragon Station), James....had two members from Hull along with Sade who had members from Hull and of Course Uriah Heep who have Trevor Bolder and have recorded in Hull, classical quartet Bond had a violinist from Hull....along with Little Angels and Robert Palmer from Scarborough....
Death by Milkfloat were from Hull, great name for a band, there's a track on YouTube called Your Independance Depends On Me(can't do YouTube links on the iPad).
