Was wondering why Sharpe wasn't sold in January window ,was it a season long loan so no need for forest to buy yet or have I missed some other reason ? Also wonder if MP might recall him in the summer to see if he offers anything to the team under his tacticts ?
As far as I know its a season long loan so no need to buy him. If they want him that much they can buy him him next transfer window. MP might want a look at him also as you mention. I wouldnt look too much into it though. Forest also dont have a manager! Sharp probably wouldnt want to commit with uncertainty around the club
He wasn't sold as we may go down and he will be useful in the championship, if we don't he will be sold.
Why do people insist on putting a "e" on the end of Sharp. It's really not difficult to remember it's SHARP.
I think it was a very late decision to part with Sharp...he was certainly surprised. I believe we got a million for a year long loan, though that may have just been set against his wages rather than on top of his wages. In the summer we may get a decent price for him. I suspect I'm not alone in regretting that we haven't got Billy as a back up impact player.
I think it was because Sean Bean said he didn't want to do anymore. There was talk of a big screen adaptation 'Sharpe's Big Break', but they decided that they'd found his level in TV dramas and the cinema was a step too far, I believe. Sorry I couldn't help myself. *EDIT* Bugger you Pieking!
Its a season long loan with no recall. Forest have him so no need to buy untill summer and we cannot recall and sell him elsewhere. Yes! Our bench is really lacking excitement. Not too sad to see de ridder go on loan but where are our impact players?!
Well Davis has had big impacts from the bench lately. And if he starts, the likelihood is that Ramirez will be on the bench, and he is certainly a game changer. Mayuka and Guly are good options as well.
Well with a fully available squad and our mostly agreed-upon first team on the pitch, we'd likely have a bench resembling SKD, Richardson, Yoshida, JWP, Davis, Mayuka and Rodriguez. Guly wouldn't even get on the bench there and has clearly shown that he can contribute at this level. So plenty of impact for me.
I don't know why, but I blame that bloody Cortese bloke. Attacking options: Lambert, Rodriguez, Ramirez, Lallana, Puncheon, Guly, Mayuka, Lee, De Ridder. I'm sorry guys, but that is more than enough for now, stop panicking about our bench when a lot of our attacking options have been injured or away recently.
I did kind of mean atm. Gaston- injured, De Ridder- on loan. Guly- currently injured. Mayuka- been away. Lee- not sure where he is. Agree with a fully fit squad we have lots of options, right now though it feels sparse.
Personally I don't think sharp is for Sale..........However with the right offer he may be. He certainly is in the shop window and doing very well for himself by all accounts. The loan was for the rest of the season by the way.(I expect someone has already said that any way) Rodders is starting to play better and better with the more game time he is getting....could do with him not missing so many sitters though. Lee is on the bench and it would not be too long before he to is given a few outings me thinks.
Given our defensive frailties, we could do with the assistance of the resolute Napoleonic infantry officer. He'd also come in handy if we ever find our way into Europe.
Our second highest goalscorer after Lambert (11) is Puncheon on 4 . Then we have Schneiderlin, who's main objective is to protect the defence, tied in 3rd with Ramirez and Rodriguez... Sharp would have got 5 or so by now I reckon. Big mistake letting him go. Bet he feels majorly let down and is hoping Forest or someone else sign him. I don't blame him either, I'd feel exactly the same.
Have to agree. Had a great pre-season & we could have done with a fox in the box in quite a few games. But, Billy likes to play, so warming the bench might not have appealed to him, so maybe the blame doesn't just sit at the clubs door on this one.
Part of me feels he doesn't have enough in his locker for this level, part of me feels he would make more impact (especially as an out and out goalscorer) as a substitute than JRod or Mayuka or anyone really, I like them as players overall but as HR says, Billy's 'fox in the box' instincts may have served us better when we were dominant in games but couldn't quite force a goal. But as is the case most of the time in these situations, unfortunately we don't know the actual reasons surrounding him going on loan. It could be that it was decided he wasn't going to contribute so had to go (which may have been a mistake), could be that he was told he wasn't going to be getting anything more than supersub appearances and he wanted regular games, could have been purely financial, who knows. I think the problem is that coming into the season, entirely justifiably we may have thought JRod and Mayuka would contribute more than Sharp, and having him as a fourth striker for a one striker system seemed unnecessary. With the benefit of hindsight we can now see that those two didn't quite progress as maybe we hoped early on (Although JRod has come on nicely in the last few games), and we may have been better off with Billy here. But you know what they say about hindsight and all that.
PRetty sure Hammond and Sharp still being on the books is an insurance policy in case the worst happens. In that case, we've got 2 good Championship players with plenty of game time under their belts who can (hopefully) slot back into the side. Certainly beats trying to get new players in. When we stay up, they'll probably be sold.
That's been my thinking for a while too, but who knows. Maybe they thought Deano needed one more season down in the Championship then he'd be ready to come in replace those useless layabouts Schneiderlin and Cork next year. Certainly a handy insurance policy whether it was intended or not.
