QPR will have only themselves to blame if the injury to Loic Remy costs them survival

After beating Newcastle United to the signing of the French international QPR would have felt confident in his ability to score the goals that keeps them up. However his injury record could have told a different story. Will it cost them?

QPR have certainly invested in their Premier League survival with big money signings such as Christopher Samba arriving at the club this January. Along with Andros Townsend and Jermaine Jenas he impressed in the 0-0 draw against Norwich City at Loftus Road this weekend and while they would have been disappointed not to have come away with a win after Adel Taarabt saw his penalty well saved by Mark Bunn overall there was positives to take; in particular from new recruits. Except where was Loic Remy?

The French international is the man being tasked with getting the goals that will help QPR survive during the end-of-season run-in and things looked so far so good after he grabbed a debut goal against West Ham United.

However the £8 million signing will now face a spell on the side-lines after injuring his groin in training. QPR fans and management will await news of just how long that will be as he undergoes scans to determine the severity on what is either a groin strain or a groin tear. A strain will see him out for a little while but a tear; that genuinely could be the majority of the season.

    Hard luck?

    Hardly.

QPR must have known that Remy has hardly been blessed with a good injury record recently in particular when it comes to the groin and thigh area. The two muscles are often injured co-dependently and judging by Remy having recent troubles with thigh tears and strains you have to wonder whether QPR would have been better off splashing their cash elsewhere.

Remy missed Euro 2012 after he suffered a nasty thigh injury against Auxerre in May. He missed most of pre-season and the first game of Ligue 1 before making his return from the problem in August but he later suffered a minor recurrence of the problem in November that kept him out for two weeks.

While the hope will remain that his latest problem with muscular injuries is something more like the latter; a two week absence; that is still not good enough. He has already missed one game where QPR will feel they dropped two points and missing their next two fixtures, against Swansea and Manchester United could see QPR take just the one point from a potential nine. With Bobby Zamora also unreliable due to his return from a hip injury and Andrew Johnson now expected to miss the rest of the season just where exactly are QPR’s goals going to come from? Jay Bothroyd, Jamie Mackie, DJ Campbell?

QPR most hope that Remy’s recent injury woes do not punish them with relegation or it will become clear that the £8 million spent may as well have been flushed down the pan.

Do you think QPR should have looked for a more reliable striker considering Remy’s recent injury problems?

Of course, silly me! It’s QPR who are to blame for Remy's injury! It’s so obvious now.

Such words of wisdom from this 23 year old student. He’s obviously far more knowledgeable about the game then Harry Rednapp. He’s even got a made up degree and everything.

    What an utter c*ck.

Can't get away from the fact that we left ourselves too reliant on Remy being injury free. Big mistake that not enough was done to get Odemwingie across the line.

not a bad article until i read the little bio at the bottom.. no one has ever been interested in sports and writing before have they, so i'm sure he'll be unique,

on remy, yeah, poor scoring and injury record, we should have known better, but we're still in there in a position whereby if he comes back for the last 6 games even, we can still do it!

I blame the Romans.. What have they ever done for us!?

It's either their fault, or the fat Welsh bloke from the Go Compare adverts, I can't make up my mind which.

Have to confess my reservations prior to Remy signing. Health was an issue for a bloke who averages roughly 1 in 3 at club level. Whilst my Wiki 'research' didn't mention this groin to thigh weakness - it did highlight a heart condition!

Annoying as this bloke is, he isn't the only one saying it. I see our owners have committed themselves 'longterm' to the club. Obviously realised we're up **** creek without a paddle and heading for the championship. <wah>

Not keen on seeing him play for the club personally...does seem strange to let both him and DJ go though when we are clearly light on strikers.
