Good to see him saying he's going to knuckle down. It will be hard for him to get back in if we carry on playing like we did on Sun and with Coutinho to come in and Henderson playing well, options!!!!!!!!!

Good player, lets see what he's made of. Can he force his way back into our starting 11? This is what you get at a big club Jonjo, commpetition for places!

I agree he hasn't played well but is a young lad that may well improve in the future.

  3. If we aren't going to use him then he should go out on loan (window opens shortly if not already). However, I suspect he will be needed when the Europa League games come round.

knuckle down? you can see the manager doesn't trust him and that comes form the training pitch. henderson forces his way in and shelvey slips out.

honestly knuckle down? thats basic IMO.

Is this why we ended up sticking on allen for sturridge and all but playing for a draw late on v city? lack of trust i nthe guys on the bench...

edit... actually reading the thing.. you know what he can go F himself. he's broken ranks with that rubbish IMO and frankly he can go rot.

    Uh??????????????

He's just saying that he wants to get back in the team, Henderson was the same before he forced his way back in

It would be good to see him go out on loan, to a decent footballing side. Lets see if he is used in Europa

I think MITO is referring to the fact that he's whingeing about being 'singled out' for a bad performance when he 'wasn't the only one'. Not the done thing <ok>

I've always thought that he needs to trim down, he seems heavy and slow on the pitch, I think loosing a bit of weight will sharpen him up.

As far as him playing in Europa I hope after our FA Cup defeat that we play our strongest team for the rest of that cup.

At the start of the season Shelvey was playing quite a bit. But at that time Lucas was injured and Henderson was barely involved (like Shelvey now). But Lucas is now fit again and playing and Henderson has broken in to the first team and is playing very well.

Also, a lot of Shelvey's success this season has come in Europe. He was playing every week, but a lot of those games were in the Europa League. ATM the Europa League is on its break.

I think it would be crazy to play anything but our strongest side in the remaining cup games. Rotating is for Carling Cup and early rounds.

Shelvey has a lot of competition for his place.

Lucas - Key player. No one else our squad can do what he does.
Gerrard - Took a little while to adjust but has been a world class dominant midfielder lately.
Allen - But in a tackle then Shelvey, though not great himself. Allen is a better passer, Shelvey is a better attacker.
    Henderson - In great form.
    Coutinho - Yet to play.

I agree that we need one. But our January priority was goals.

Even though I suggested otherwise, Gerrard can play that role to. But I dont want him to as it limits his influence.

He's a frustrating player Shelvey. He's undoubtedly confident and definitely has something about him talent wise. He just suffers from a lack of brain I think.

He has always looked a bit full of himself beyond his contribution for me. I think maybe BR giving him the royal treatment may have contributed but now the same guy isn't picking him he will realise its about the effort and hopefully pick it up a bit. Silly comments about personal life though, stop explaining yourself and get working, still think his attitude cost us 2 points against Newcastle.

I have faith in Shelvey to come good. I would never expect a 20 year old to be playing like Zidane every game like some fans seem to expect but I think in time he will come good and judging by that being Liverpool thing, it seems that Brendan has very high hopes for Shelvey.

classic example of someone who thinks they are better than they really are IMO.

knuckle down? needs a rude awakening along the lines of stephen ireland got... look at him now! shelvey has never shown anything like that first season ireland did for city... now he's at villa and trying a bit but off the rails... not michael jonhson style but you know.... shelvey needs to take a good look at whats going on. hard work = rewards, big mouths = shown the door.

Think ROdgers and staff need to figure out what they want him to be: CM, AM, SS. Figure it out and just develop him in the role.
