I can't say I'd blame him if he left. He's 28 now and needs to be playing regularly. He's a quality keeper but it's unfortunate for him Mings better:- Following Shay Given's retirement from international football last summer, Westwood has been wearing Ireland's No.1 jersey. However, the 28-year-old's lack of first team football at the Stadium of Light in recent months has left him fighting for his Ireland place. Belgium international Simon Mignolet is the current top choice at Sunderland with Ireland's manager Trapattoni set to name Millwall's David Forde as his keeper in Wednesday's friendly against Poland Trapattoni said: "The goalkeeper is a particularly delicate position. "I don't worry about an outfield player if he is not playing for his club but a goalkeeper is alone on the pitch and if he hasn't been playing then it's more difficult psychologically. "I hope Westwood can play in the future but now the manager chooses Mignolet. "I told him you can change club and you can play. But with Forde and (Stephen) Henderson we are okay. It's important we give Forde this opportunity." Westwood's most recent first team appearance came in the Captial One Cup back in October and he has not played in the Premier League all season.
Mig is the better of the two, so in my opinion he should play unless injured..It's great that we have such a good keeper as back up, but I wouldn't blame the lad if he did leave to get first team action.
Sell Westwood. Move pickford to number 2. Simple as that. Mig is a better keeper and given more game time will get better and more valuable. Westwood won't improve a great deal and will never be as valuable. No room for sentimentality for me.
dont confuse oneil even more, with keeper selection, he messes most thinsg up with the rest of the team selection and the use of subs
He might do a Judas and leave for a bigger club. Good goalie but you can understand traps predicament.
Lets not forget there is talk of both Arsenal and Man U looking to replace their keepers. I can honestly see the MIG moving in the summer to a bigger club. I'd be gutted if it happen but not surprised one bit.
Trap is correct but so is MON on this one - the way Mig has played this season (one **** up apart!) how could MIN realistically drop him for EPL games? If we lose Westwood so be it but get Mig signed up asap to a longer and better deal... Fast forward to the start of next season - Mig gone for peanuts (current deal expires 2015 and the story is we risked losing him for nothing then...); Westwood given us the finger as we never played him and we`re begging Craig Gordon to come back regardless of how fit he is... it could only be true at Sunderland! Happy days
I hope he it does not happen but I can see Mig going in the summer and Westwood being No.1 next season. The lad is good enough, I think with a run in the team he could be as good as Mig.
If Mignolet stays for the duration he could end up being a true legend for the club as he's getting better all the time
Westwood will be off in the summer unless we receive a massive bid for Mignolet which we cant refuse. If Bergovic is valued at £15m, then imo Mig is £15m+ to start off with.
What is the price of getting relegated , from what i have seen without ming we would be rock bottom now , more money , kiss his arse and make him equal to the better paid who are at the club. He is the best keeper i have seen for a long long time for any club in the prem,
This, and keep him until the last few days of August to see if Mig goes. Westwood would be more then an able replacement and number one keeper. I have always liked him as he looks solid and confident, he's also not "way behind Mig", that's doing him an injustice. IMO
Westwood is a bloody good keeper. Someone at the club should tell this geriatric Italian twat to shove his pasta up his jappa & his pizza up his arse, .
