It's not about the money, it's about the track record. Abramovich has admitted bribing hundreds of government officials in Russia, so it's not difficult to assume he has the ways and the means to bribe a match official. And certainly the ways and means to deliver enough coded threats and pressure to opposition strikers to make them suspiciously profligate and willing to lose possession when they face Chelsea...
Suspiciously clear cut in fact. Any wealthy Russian from the past two decades will have sufficient resources to bribe / cajoule / threaten a defender to handle a ball in the box. Or get a couple of defenders to leave Chelsea players unmarked at vital moments. Heck, if a bunch of scouse gangsters can stop Gerrard moving to Chelsea, do you think there's anything that one of the richest and most powerful gangsters in the world can't achieve? Particularly when he's seeing his dream slip away for the eighth year in a row?
Eh? There was no situations in that game when anything dodgy happened! The one that springs to mind is our match against Barca which seemed to be most definitely rigged. Don't know why our one against Napoli is doing the rounds... I guess everything is our fault I guess...
There don't have to be dodgy decisions in a game for it to be fixed. Defenders failing to put a tackle in won't be seen as dodgy but as **** defending.
LOL. Why are you so certain it's Chelsea? Have you ever thought that NO english club was actually involved with this whole saga?
what a load of complete and utter bollocks! Seriously, never read such drivel regarding conspiracies! You can't heckle those who have a pop at United for having Webb/Clattenberg onside yet come out with that. As for the match, no guarantee it was even an English club in the wrong.
Last three or four years indicates it was actually three or four years ago. I'm gonna go with the Tottenham Milan game.
So what happens if they find a big team guilty then, are we looking at a full on bans and titles re-assigned job al la Seria A?
Lol, I thought I'd get your blood boiling with that one In all seriousness, it was almost certainly some dead rubber from the back end of the group stages. Perhaps someone bribed Jovanovic to give the penalty in this game for example: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/europe/9264935.stm That game was two years ago... And they probably said three or four years so as not to be too specific - if it was last year they were hardly going to say so, as that would just set the media off analysing every game.
Of course its this game. and its United who woukld be the team handed the trophy if they went that route. They wont though, it will go down as n/a in the record books.
