After reading what Steve Bruce has said about Egyption football, we now have access to a large untapped fan base in the region. One of the problems that the club has faced in the past was its global presence. If we develop the relationship with the country, could we be in a position to find a lucrative sponsor and perhaps meet the challenge of the financial restrictions coming into the sport.

Egypt will not be the solution, I know that, but could this be the start.

Why not tap into that market. Massive fan base for the taking. How many new City fans do we have since the Bangle boys arrived ????

I said something similar in a different thread on deadline day. The club should be doing their all at targetting merchandise at them and looking at beaming games back to Egypt live on TV. The sooner the better, time wasted is money wasted.

Out of interest, are ahly fans disappointed to lose 2 of their favourites, or happy to see they are getting a chance to play in England? From what I can see they look to be ecstatic for them, which is in stark contrast to here, imagine the uproar if man u sold Rooney and van persie!

To be honest and i'm not even ''Ahlawy'' Al Ahly is one of the few clubs in Africa not depending on selling their key players..Its used to be a rich club (not now though due to Egypt's financial problems) But players like Fathy Aboutrika and Gedo are getting offers from Europe every year and Al ahly keeps rejecting those offers, And now there is a short new ugly version of the Egyptian league which nobody cares about so yeah the fans aren't bothered about it

It was a legitimate question, I've no idea I just don't think they've got much (maybe one of the Egyptian posters can help). Just don't see much point in the club putting a lot of time and effort (and therefore money) into marketing if it's a market that can't afford the products and services we offer. Other than making the free stuff (eg facebook) available in Arabic to prevent the English only speakers being pushed away it's surely down to Al Ahly to be doing the brand building for us there as part of the partnership. Let's face it, we're raising their profile here bringing players in and having friendlies etc. I know it's for charity and not commercial (although hosting it here with our small crowds as opposed to over there with big crowds would support the lack of money idea)
