Hmmmm. Hull is not the type of place that craves sympathy from national newspapers. Just as well really cos we're off their radar.

It's a lefty rag ploy to hit back at the coalition's bedroom tax.

This tax is motivated in the main by the housing 'crisis', which as been caused by letting in too many people into our country.

This was great news for shareholders, landlords and employers. **** news for everyone else.

It's a disgrace, talk about kicking people when they're down. Rise up, march on 10 Downing Street as a City, all 256,000 wearing Hull City shirts and demand he change the law. Or we'll kick is ****in' 'ed in, ya geddit dickhead?

We should start an independent country of Yorkshire petition, then we'd see the rest of the country suddenly needs the places that it ****s over so regularly.

you're going about it the wrong way. we need to make the three hull constituencies into marginals, then they'd care.

I read this story as I visited my granddad this weekend.

I have no doubt this tax will hit people hard. And yes it seems like here will be hit one of the hardest.

Although the piece was very complimentary about Hull and it's people in places, it still had a bit of a 'look how poor they are in Hull' tone which I didn't like.

That's how we're looked at by the rest of the country. It's not just us struggling, and not everywhere is deprived in Hull.

It just paints a more depressing picture than is true I think, but then they want to tug at the heartstrings of the government don't they.

Can't expect anything better from the Conservatives really.

That article liked mentioning that Hull had been bombed and is a deprived area though. I wouldn't say it's sympathy, I think it was a slow news day. <laugh>

how is Hull one of the most deprived areas of Britain ????

the depravity i read going on in our glorious capital city every single day pales Hulls petty crime rap sheet into insignificance .

a tale of 2 City Centre slogans ....
"come to Hull and get harassed by a hippy to sign up to a save the children scheme"
"come to London and get stabbed or pick pocketed"

Hull itself is a poor city but the surrounding areas are very wealthy. Unfortunately this never gets taken in to account

Think I'll stop bitching about our taxes here. Getting taxed for having a spare bedroom is appalling. Absolutely disgusting. Shameful, that government.

Agree totally with this, some parts of Hull are terribly deprived, but drive out past Willerby, and you see wealth in abundance

At first glance this bedroom tax makes perfect sence (getting extra tax off all those with 3 or 4 people in a 6 or 7 bed house) then when you think about who it will actually effect (the single dad whos kids come over to stay at the weekend so needs the extra bedroom)

    **** that for an idea.

I don't want any peasants driving by my house in their Ford Sierra's and Vauxhall Viva's just to gawp at my crib.

It would lower the tone considerably and make me sad, so sad that I'd have to go and lay down in the West Wing.

Serfs in the West Hull villages, whatever next?
