UEFA have announced that the Europa League has been extended to 6th place for English teams due to the Fair Play league. This should make qualifying a certainty for Liverpool. I guess you guys will be happy with this news!
http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11669_6935351,00.html Read it again, this has no bearing on us as it's the FAIR PLAY league or something. So as SSN say it will be Fulham most likely...
Yes, the spot goes to the highest team in England's fair play rankings that does not already have a European spot. This means Spurs are almost guaranteed a Europa League spot as if they finish 6th they'd take the FP spot. Otherwise that spot is coming to Fulham or Blackpool.
..................................................................Yellow Red Points 1 Blackpool ....................................... 46 2 50 Fulham ..................................... 50 0 50 3 Tottenham Hotspur ........................... 51 2 55 4 Birmingham ..................................... 53 3 59 Chelsea ..................................... 57 1 59 as it stands, for spurs to get their place through the fair play league, they need fulham AND blackpool to get 6 points (6 yellows, or 3 reds, or any combination) and spurs not to get any cards at all against birmingham.
Do fouls not get counted too? If not then surely Fulham should edge out Blackpool by not having any red cards all season
I have no idea tbh, I just go by what I see in the table, and that means spurs most probably not getting in through fair play. I guess it is whoever gets fewer cards rather than fewer red cards... meaning two teams with 10 points, one with 10 yellows and one with 5 reds, the one with 5 reds goes through... thats just what i see though, but it doesnt really make any sense, cause surely its "fairer playing" if you dont get any red cards
To clarify, the fairplay league is judged on more than just yellow and red cards. It has a number of categories: Red & Yellow cards: Maximum 10 pts per match (3 points for a red, 1 for a yellow) Positive play: Maximum 10 pts per match Respect towards opponent: Maximum 7 pts per match Respect towards referee: Maximum 7 pts per match Behaviour of officials: Maximum 6 pts per match So the final rankings here are dependent on how the FA awards points in the other categories. The table above is an ESPN table, I believe, which is not calculated using the above criteria.
@surlyc yes, i agree about all you said. the thing is though, the saying "the table doesnt lie" clearly does: chelsea sit top as of 30th of april with one of the highest ratings for respect towards referee :S. fulham still sit 2nd though, with a comfortable gap from spurs, but i dont know how they rated the weekend's games
I'd love to see Blackpool have a crack at it. Not enough teams like them get into these comps, it would be a great watch if they played as they have in the prem the first half of this season.
