I think Sturridge is more of a team player than Torres. when 'Nando was at his peak, it was more of a case of "give me the ball and piss off and leave it to me". Sturridge isn't the same type of player. I don't want to get too excited too early, but the first signs are very good, and so far no sign of his supposed bad attitude (fingers crossed). He adds an extra dimension to our attack, holding the ball well and bringing others into the game. I too am surprised at how good his close control is- a part of his game I was unaware of until now. Let's hope he can go from strength to strength and build on a very good start.
One thing I was worried about was him being greedy. I saw a lot of him running around in circles at Chelski, aimlessly dribbling into people. But his awareness and ability to find others in space today was really very good. Particularily the pull back for Suarez - a better connection from Suarez would certainly have been a goal. There was so much pace on the pass, it just needed directing properly.
I hadn't seen enough of him to know one way or the other when we signed him. I'd heard about the attitude and the greediness, but also that he had huge potential (from citeh fans). Still very early days, but he's been excellent so far and seems to be developing a fantastic relationship with Suarez. Superb yesterday and he could and should only get better
It's hard to judge him from chelsea though. Players get lost, dejected, moan and careers get ruined. Makes such a difference with him playing for us.
well so far he has been anything but what type of player he supposedly is by rival fans greedy? no evidence so far. sulky moans a lot? again haven't seen any. seems a good team player and the understanding with luis also looks promising, long may it continue, £12 mill bargain, about fecking time we had a bargain, its been a while.
The way I see it, we paid £35M for Sturridge and £12M for Carroll, makes it easier to swallow! Won't say "I told you so" (because I may not have, but I thought it!), but I was always excited by the prospect of signing the lad, so far so good, not getting carried away but keep going lad!
The good thing about his performance yesterday was that his first touch, passing and decision making were all top class and we had the goal to go with it.
How dare you all give Sturridge the patience Carroll never got. I bet you were all slagging of a 21 year old Lucas too whilst JW Henry sipped Champagne out of the Carling Cup in the Wembley dressing room. Also, Rodgers would have a 0% win record if you don't count any of the wins.
This is true. Followed by multiple quotes where he picks what he wants from everybody ( leaving out important bits) to get his point across.
I wasnt expecting Sturridge to flop but I certainly wasn't expecting this good a start. I thought he would be an average signing for us... so I'm happy. Too early to say if he continues this good... he's been with us less time than Allen was our most inform player at the start of the season. Torres WAS amazing for a while and Sturridge can't yet compete with just how good Torres was... but keep this up and maybe.
He was brilliant against City. He exploited the space between the defence and midfield superbly. Suarez and Daniel look like they will develop a powerful partnership.
