Next up on the Deepdale mud flats are the Shrews, they are struggling around near the lower reaches of the table, having struggled on their travels this season, they come up against a side who are equally clueless at home. However, I think this is a game which we can win. It will be welcome back to Paul Parry who was one of the few success of last season, however he has been sub the last few weeks so whether he gets on to play against us is open to question. As with last week, how many will turn up? Lose this one and we are in trouble.
Thermaclad......you must have been reading our minds..... "Lose this one and we are in trouble." With a draw last week we dropped closer to the "Zone". Either of us could do well, either of us could be as bad as usual......does this have 0-0 written all over it? Let's just hope we see some decent footy, can't remember when that was.
Not sure whether Parry will start. Fizzled out badly after a decent start. Personally, I'd give him a run out simply because he is a left winger and in recent weeks we've been playing a somewhat average untility man there in Rob Purdie - naturally a centre mid but has been our second choice LB this season. I think this may well end in a disappointing draw that neither team really wants.
Metashrew would be great if it was a decent game but our pitch has been destroyed by overuse, will be a hoof ball game
It's now 12 home league games without a home win the longest in the clubs history, although to be fair the run should have ended today, however 3 decent chances were spurned in the second half which would have given Preston victory as it was a late penalty gave Shrewsbury the points. A first half of direct football threatened to be one of the most tedious halves in the history of the game, the ball being propelled into outer space on a regular basis, efforts on goal were as rare as hen's teeth with McAllister header for the visitors half way through the half being the only save either keeper had to make. North End took the lead on the stroke of half time when Beavon blasted home from 30 yards, a goal out of context with anything that had happened in the first half. (1-0) Neither side looked remotely like scoring in the 2nd half as the tedium returned apart from a Holmes shot which was well saved by Weale in the Shrews goal. Against the run of play the Shrews levelled, ex North Ender was left unmarked, he pulled the ball back to Taylor whose powerful drive from 18 yards found the back of the net.(1-1) The goal actually spurred the home side on and for a few minutes they actually began to play some decent football and with they created chances Cummings being unlucky to have a shot cleared from the line and then Holmes weaved his way through the Shrews defence and curled his shot over the bar, it should have gone. Cummings again missed a good chances as both sides began to settle for a point until Morgan, Shrewsbury's gangly forward wormed his way into the home defence. Davies mistimed his tackle and sadly it was a penalty. Richards did the rest and away went the Shrews with the points. A relegation battle looms for the home side, under the clueless direction from the sidelines this is going to be tough to escape. Preston North End 1 Shrewsbury Town 2 Att 8331
Our current form is that of a side heading for relegation, again, ... to strong? No, after over a year in charge and now playing a team more or less crafted by our 'manager' I have yet to see any sign that his methods are improving the teams performance. Hes just not up to the job, get rid.....
Welcome Finny, should never have appointed him, but we did, going to be hard work getting 50 points at this rate. Apparently though, we don't understand home defeats?!!!!!!!!! The man's a clown trouble is nobodies is laughing at him.
I was one that had hopes for this manager after the Stevenage game. On that day, the team played good football, and I have put the problems at D'dale down to a hostile home crowd on the back of his reputation at Stevenage and to the loss of two influential players. It does seem as though the problems are less superficial and GW should acknowledge that his plans are not working. Goodbye.
I didn't go but someone posted elsewhere that both sets of fans did some good chanting, including: Which sums up our service to our strikers
