I'm not trying to win elle. I'm not trying to convert them. I like the sports they don't , that's fine by me. I just don't think it's fair, it's a bit like saying I don't like mushrooms without ever having tried them.

It's far more complex than that though ;D and you know it. Anyways poking at the lack of strategy is silly considering football is just running around kicking a sphere until it ends up in a net.

It isn't fair for sure. Just like all the Americans who say the exact same thing about sports in England and Europe are being equally unfair. You could substitute football, cricket, rugby etc for the sports they are putting down and it would sound exactly the same. The only thing that is funny is how both sides agree the other sides sports are stupid.

Personally I hate the nfl but I can see why people like college football. I dont like the NBA but college basketball fun to watch if it is your college. Baseball is fun to watch but not all 162 games for sure. I only start actually watching games the last few months and into the playoffs. The NHL is the sport of ours I watch the most. The MLS would be better if the quality was good but t is getting better. They all have their positive and negative aspects.

Just realised watching MOTD that there is late drama nearly every week, one team in particular in Reading.

Sincerely love to watch non Americans talk about tackle football. Some great arguments from both sides and really enjoy the piss takes. Sure, the game is about knocking the hell out of each other but it will likely become less about that in the near future as more retired players are getting brain diseases, etc.

Regardless, tackle football takes as much planning/strategy as football, but yes, the timeouts in tackle football are awful. it's a big reason why I now hate going to my hometown NFL games. Well, that and our team kinda sucks the last few years, but mainly because of the timeouts. All of the NFL timeouts are one reason I've been more prone to enjoy a football game over tackle football the last few years.

Anyway, I hate both teams. I hope they both lose. The Ravens' best player is a cheating murderer and the 49ers have a gay basher on their team and their head coach acts like a spoiled ten year old boy on the sidelines. I'll watch, but mainly I'll be drinking beer.

Actually, since you guys are on here and I never had a chance to go and see any matches when on my hols there, what is the MLS actually like as a 'matchday experience'? The image in my head is something akin to the Irn-Bru Scottish First Division, but with sunlight...

Don't know. Closest MLS team is a six hour drive from my house. Beckham said the atmosphere in Seattle and Portland was as good as any he experienced in Europe. It seems loud on the television. Only pro football match I've been do other than the part time pro league in my city was at the KC so don't have much to compare it to.

I have been to a few DC United games. It is pretty loud and would be louder if they were not playing in an old nfl stadium. The acoustics are terrible since they only sell the first deck and leave all the upper decks empty. So a stadium of like 70,000 only has 20,000 available seats. They use a lot of drums which is pretty annoying. I watch LA and SJ games on tv sometimes and they always look close to a sell out and the fans seem to raise a good ruckus.

You should watch one sometime even if the quality on the pitch will drive you crazy at times.

I went to see the San Jose Sharks play ice hockey a few times when I lived in northern california. The atmosphere was very good but I never had any idea what was going on to be honest

I like some US sports, Basketball is my personal favourite, I've only ever been to 1 game though when I was on holiday a few years ago, they were reasonably good back then, play offs every year, I was lucky enough to get the game against Miami, they won but it was down to the death & only Dwight Howard missing free throws,(shock) cost Orlando that night. It was very exciting, there were Miami fans sitting right in font of me, not one bit of trouble, drinking was allowed in the seats, I made sure I was kept topped up, even the wife was going for me before I ran dry, although she did cheat & bring back 2 so I didn't have to miss any of the game. Didn't really help though as I was needing to go for a piss just as often.
As for NFL, I enjoy watching some games, mainly when there's 1 team I like or dislike, I'm looking forward to the Super Bowl, need to get some beer in for that one. I'm looking forward to catching an NFL game next year hopefully.
Americans that I speak to tend to choose NBA & NFL as their favoured sports, when they tell me about Baseball, it's normally about how much they drink during the game, to me it sounds very much like cricket.
Ice Hockey is very fast & although its exciting I tend to lose interest in it when I can't see the puck, on TV I can easily drift in & out of games, the one thing that really puts me off it though is that there always seems to be a punch up, which reminds me of that annoying American wrestling.
So in short, tomorrow beer & Super Bowl, will be supporting the 49ers.

I have always thought you had to play baseball to really like watching it. It is just one of those things I think that unless you have experienced hitting a home run it just cant be as exciting.

I get bored by college sports, the only time I get interested is if there's someone playing who is supposed to be the next big thing.

The 49ers have a gaybasher on their team? Bet that goes down well in San Francisco.
