Spot on tuckshop...the brain just wouldn't click into gear.......an excellent player but stuborn in his demands.....who did he go to in the end can you remember? Was it West Ham or Fulham I seem to remember it was a London club?
Home grown players as I understand it actually covers the whole of Europe any one that is in the EEC. Would others like to confirm that, am I right?
Morning All NA said when he came in, how fantastic the scouting setup is here, if this news is true, then he must be over the moon. With NC & NA, I believe we're in for a long & enjoyable ride on the bus. It is so different these days, waking up & feeling soooo much positivity about our wonderful club.... ...BBBBeddy I believe Berkovic went to The Hammers & Kachloul to Villa
If I remember correctly Eyal and Klaus were Souness signings. Eyal arrived in 1996 which was about the same time that Cooper started with the club. Eyal was a talented little blighter but had a rather nasty temper as I recall.
He most certainly did.........Being so close to the spectators of course you can hear very clearly what is being said about you. I can remember one particular incident.......I am not sure of the lead up but a spectator told him he should of passed and not been so greedy or some such......He started remonstrating with the spectator down by the corner flag. The ref got assy as he was taking so long over the kick as well.......so one can imagine that he could be a fiery character!
MLT's autobiography tells the story of how Eyal didn't have international clearance to play in this friendly, Souness played him anyway, and told the local media to report an own goal if he scored. He scored an unbelievable solo effort apparently, and the newspaper reported it as 'The greatest own goal ever'
This bloke has a decent track record of finding some good players...Litmanen, Hyppia, Riise, Henchoz to name but a few. Used to be Liverpool's european scout i think??
Interesting interview, and he seems to have given away some club secrets, i.e. we are looking for up to six new players, minimum expectation is premier league in two years, the owners are willing to finance a push for the champions league and AOC is off this summer. Am I weird that this all seems to me to be very worrying if true?
How is it worrying that the club has ambition?? And Chamberlain leaving to a bigger club is inevitable, to be honest, it's just a matter of when and to who.
Beddytare only spoty ill educated teenagers say "should of passed" instead of "should have passed" are you sure you are not kidding us on about your age and that you are really a 17 year old hoody?
Its worrying because there are two kinds of ambition. Good ambition (i.e. to be a solid premier league club), and bad ambition (i.e. to chase the dream at all costs). One leads to 27 years in the top flight and a stable financial footing, the other leads to ã125 million of debt and near financial oblivion. The first is the Southampton way, the latter is the Portsmouth way. If we try and chase the champions league it will be against the spirit and traditions of this club and it will all end in tears. I've seen us come within an inch of going out of business once already, I never want to see it again.
Oh dear........I wasn't aware I needed elocution lessons or lessons in English or in English language....... not when posting on this site. I think all that is needed is for people to actually understand what is said and to get the gist of any discussion. .........Incidentally "spoty" is actually spelt spotty!!!!!!!! As you can see any one of us can actually be picked up at any point, on our grammar, or spelling, or the correct use of our language. Within reason does it really matter as long as we understand each other?
Whoa, hang on a minute - let's not get ahead of ourselves here... I really don't think we need to start worrying abut an unsustainable assault on the Champions League quite yet - we've only just got ourselves into the Championship! Cortese has shown himself to be extremely focused, single-minded and level-headed - I really can't see him getting Saints mired in some Leeds-like Champions League debacle some time in the future. He is ambitious, but also realistic and pragmatic - and he has serious money behind him as Markus' leagacy to the club. As a (very) long-term ambition, the Champions League could be realistic - but we've a few steps to take before that, methinks. A new Director of European Recruitment is a positive step on the journey, but let's not get carried away just yet.... In the meantime, let's just enjoy the success we have achieved this season and look forward to a successful season in the Championship. One step at a time, one game at a time, as NA would no doubt advise...
Some wise words there 40000thheadman........Anyway in case nobody else has greeted you "Welcome to the Saints board". We look forward to your contribution and do tell your mates. It doesn't matter if they are not Saints fans because who ever they support is catered for on here....... Back to your post....to be honest there is nothing wrong with optimism......although granted it can be a little over the top sometimes. Realistically all we can do is enjoy what ever progress we make and to glory in how the set up is actually managed and added to. Time well tell if all this actually pays off.......it should do......it is after all very professional.
Has any one actually seen a confirmation from SFC that this new Director of European Recruitment is a done deal? I've not seen anything on Saints web site and that is usually where news is announced.
Doesn't mean we're planning to sign 6 players from abroad. My guess would be that Cortese told him to "get busy", which s fair enough if we are looking for a bargain to fill a very specific role in our squad.
