Yeah, I think on balance he deserved it. I think he got caught, and if he had just gone down he wouldn't have got the card, but the half spin and the jump were a bit much.
Same. People use the occasional bad miss (that looks 'bad') to try to overshadow very solid performances, but he's had an excellent first season.
Yup, I've backed him since the start too, although he began to piss me off earlier this month. He responded to that bad form with his recent flurry of goals, so good on him!
Even when he wasn't scoring in his first few games and people were getting on his back, he was still making great assists and good forward play, bringing others into play to set up chances
I know it's late, but I actually laughed when he did that. Any other team and I'd have thought, naughty. But come on they have Suarez. It's allowed.
I wanted to revive this to see what the Giroud lovers have to say after a few more games. I think hes not shown anything to stake his claim as a first team player for us and still think Arsenal should have better. I didnt see the game today, but he was our central striker and again could not score. For me he's just too amonimous in most games and does not have the pace or touch needed to play at a top club in the PL. The only thing he can do is hit the ball when when (and only when) its placed perfectly for him to do so. There are a lot of better players than him we could have bought and if we dont make the top 4 or win a trophy this season (which is now very unlikely) I will blame the club for not investing in January when they apparently had plenty of money to do so.
After his good run of form he returned to being rubbish. His first few months were barely good enough. He then got much worse, had a few good games, now he's awful again. On average he's getting worse.
Problem is - it is quite difficult to talk about Giroud. He is not great, not awful, just somewhere between good and average, where there is not much to admire and not much to criticise. A good mid table first choice striker for sure. A very good 2nd choice Arsenal striker for sure as well. Just admit it - we do not have a 1st choice striker at the moment. We have a very good 2nd choice one.
Just thought, I would bump this thread to get more views on Giroud, now that he has had more games to prove himself. His current stats: Goals - 16 Assists - 10 My view on him remains the same to be honest. I just do not think he has the qualities to ever be world class and on his day, he is nothing more than just a good player. To have a player like that in the squad would be great for us, but like with Chamakh, Giroud's could become even worse if he is demoted to the bench. So, it's going to be interesting to see what Wenger does with Giroud next season.
Probably starts him once Aubameyang flops. (We'll sign him instead of Jovetic, as he's cheap, it's a transfer that has Wenger written all over it.)
He's been quite average for sometime now, with only 1 goal in 10 games. The thing with Giroud is that he will go missing for 1-2 months, which is basically a 7-10 game streak, then pop out and have a small run of good games 2-3 where he scores and that gives him respite, if you look at him through the whole season, that's literally been the Giroud trend.
Allegedly due to carrying an injury. Not sure how that would preclude him though - he'll run more on the wing. At the start of the season I imagine we would have taken 16/10 for him. If he can get a couple more goals & a couple of assists in the last few games he'll have had a good season.
I can see him getting 20+ goals, as will Walcott. PS, anyone else noticed that Giroud's best is when Walcott is playing. Its kinda like how we were saying that Podolski only worked well with Gibbs
I guess different players bring out the best in each other - I remember Pod and Caz having a great understanding (much like Rosicky and Caz seem to have). That being said I do think Podolski is a better player than Giroud and most importantly for a striker, he is a far superior finisher. Both have a habit of disappearing in games but when that half/once a game chance arises I would rather have Pod than Giroud there. He is quicker, better dribbler and finisher, the only thing giroud has over him is physique (not being used much) and heading (not much use with our crossing). Pod deffo needs to be give a shot at CF for the remainder of the season (bar injuries)
