The Eagle on Anlaby Road is for sale for £275k, as is St.Georges Hotel(St.George's Rd). They're ****e sites, unless someone on here fancies opening a City pub, who'd pay that for them? The Lord Nelson in Beverley is also for sale for £250k, again it seems a lot for a small pub in a secondary location.
Anybody usedto visit the King Eddy down Carr Lane, on the corner of Anne Street right next door to King Com? Pub was upstairs on the first floor of what is now Divas I believe? Always used to go there for our pre-match pint in the late 80's. Can't remember what the beer was, Darleys? Anyway it was a nice pint!
the pub you are thinking of could have been called the royal oak,it had a big round fireplace in the middle
Used to be both upstairs and downstairs - upstairs was where any 'functions' took place. I remember in the 70s - the landlord (?) was a pretty big, solid guy. Someone - a roadie for the Who - told me that.....there's a line in the Eagles' 'Hotel California' where it runs: " ...and they just can't kill the Beast". Same big solid guy was 'The Beast' - had been a roadie for the Eagles. Any road up - anyone come across this story before? Anyone know if it's true?
Darleys and Wards merged into same company. Wards = Sheffield; Darleys = Snaith (if I recall it right?)
Back in the mid to late sixties used to go to King eddy(upstairs}, then onto Spencers, then across the road to Locarno
Rarely Black Boy - always thought it to be a bit of a miserable hole even though its part of the rich history of High Street.
Spencer Arms - was the first pub I went into in the city centre and after a city night game at that I seem to recall - was about the poshish pub about at the time.
Gingerman , Shire Horse , Star o West , Bass , Cheese , White Horse on to Trogg then clubbing . Bali Ha'i , Romeos or Tiffanys/Peppermint Park/La's if the door staff refused entry then off to Henrys or Tower (my Monday haunt for the £10 best stripper act , the girls that is) or coffee house .
