What A Disgrace! Dock Them Both Points!!

So cos' it's a part of the game it should be allowed? Like sexism and racism? Obviously those issues are in the extreme but you have to admit it's fair enough to criticise Man Utd and Blackburn for what they did. That's all that's being said.

Just cos' it's done doesn't mean it's right.

 

Why criticise United? They have been the best team this season (whether there performances have been below par or not) and deserved the title, why get riled up because they started kicking the all about in their own half for the last 10 mins of a game to win the title?

It sounds stupid!

Man U only needed one point to win the league anything more was superfluous. Blackburn however would have benefited even more from three points than from one, so to allow Man U to retain possession without any effort was a capitulation and gamesmanship. Man U would have to be mental to have not taken the opportunity to play keep ball and guarantee the title. If you want to blame somebody blame Blackburn for their "one point is good enough" mentality.

 

I'm not having a go, i'm just saying that it isn't right. Another poster made the point very clear. It's the mentality that's wrong.

Apologies though; i'm just sticking up for the first guy. It wasn't nice to say 'Oh do shut up!' and 'Now get over it!' got me a bit riled.

 

Why not, its apart of the game and always has been, not to the extent that was shown today but saying both teams should be docked points because of it is just ridiculous.

You aren't as old as me so you won't remember the Austria vs Germany game in the 1982 World Cup. Look up some footage or a report on that on the internet to see the difference and you will see the biggest conspiracy in world football. (apologies if you already know about it and i'm teaching you to suck eggs!).

I watched that game as it happened and it was utterly disgusting and a shameful day for football. Man U v Blackburn just does not compare on any level.

 

I just didn't think it was fair.

I'd read about the Austria game but obviously didn't see it live. What was it like? Did you go?

 

No I watched it on the tv. In those days the final group stages games weren't played at the same time. Austria were top of the group and Algeria 2nd (having beaten Germany 2-1). So the teams went into the game knowing that a 1-0 victory to Germany would see them both go through with Austria topping the group. Germany scored a soft goal and then they took it in turns playing keep ball for the rest of the game. It was pretty obvious that they had agreed the result before the game started. After that all final games take place at the same time in leagues and world cups alike.

Never felt so sorry for a team as I did for Algeria that day!

 

I don't see that they should be docked points...Had they gone forward and been caught on the break then both clubs risk losing far more than had they simply drawn...

If Blackpool, Wigan, West Ham etc. go down, then they only have themselves to blame - they had 38 games to guarantee survival 10 minutes of Man U v Blackburn is irrelevant!

 

Look when i said dock them 3 points it was a little tongue-in-cheek. It's not gonna happen. But the point i was trying to make was if this kind of thing is allowed to creep in then you go back to the situation that the mackems faced all those years ago when coventry and bristol c conspired to play out time and see them relegated. I am not sour cos Man U won the title , they deserved it and I backed them! Probably the biggest beef is with Blackburn for JUST NOT TRYING! I hope it backfires on them and they get relegated!

 

I wouldn't be disappointed to see that!

I don't really have a problem with the way they played today like...At the end of the day, if they pushed forward and got caught, then got relegated by a point, as a fan, you'd look at the 1:0 lead you had and be angry!

What needs to be changed in my opinion is the lack of consistency! Blackpool getting fined for fielding a weaker team? Disgraceful!
