.... Just seen this story in the Guardian - Grant Holt could be allowed to leave Norwich City if Chris Hughton, can sign either Celtic's Gary Hooper or Ricky van Wolfswinkel of Sporting Lisbon. The 31-year-old has not been suited to Hughton's favoured 4-5-1 formation and, with his family having now moved back to Cumbria, he may be open to a transfer. Read the full story here - http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2013/jan/28/grant-holt-quit-norwich-city Not sure what to make of this, as I don't think it's just lazy journalism, but I still think he's got a lot to offer if only as an 'impact sub'. PS - I felt this warranted a separate thread, rather than be lost in the general 'transfer' thread.
Because it is from the guardian I feel it could be true, however only yesterday CH said the club had received no offers for any players. So even if he is allowed to leave we still have to recieve bids for him.
Although there was a lot of shock and horror in the summer about this very possibility, if it meant getting a better striker then I think the general consensus would be that of acceptance. Although he has been the heartbeat of the team, having seen what we have seen this season then perhaps it might be the right time to let him go if we get a pacey striker with lots of goals in them and not rely quite so much on the lumping the ball in to the box for him to get his head on to. I know his game is much more than that but maybe, just maybe we do need something new and fresh. I am not at all mortified at the suggestion.
The bit that jarred with me was where the journo claims his family has moved back north. I follow GH on twitter, and he still tweets about the school run, taking his girls to Pizza Hut (with photo) and having a coffee with the 'missus' after training while they are at school.
Just because he tweets it, don't make it real, and they could be old photos. Not saying they are, but that they could be. I personally think that of we are to lose a striker then Martin, Jackson and Morro would be first out the door.
It's certainly not especially well written but there may be some truth behind what the gist of the article is saying (in general). None of the following is down to Grant Holt as an individual as the team in many cases have not helped his cause that much.... Holt may well be allowed to move on because CH has not seen enough from Holty this season to keep him as the 1st name on the team sheet or CH wants the team to attack in a different way and not a way with a big burly No 9 bustling defenders to reach his goal. Am I coming over as not bothered? To be honest, this time round I am not as I don't think he has shone this season although he has done a lot of work and has made considerable effort. This though, with the current squad is not enough and may well be down to CH and the way he wants the team to play, so making way for someone to come in and play the CH way would make a lot of sense.
That had crossed my mind also but even a straight swap could (possibly) put us in a better position, certainly no worse off then we are now.
Holty is our leader we need another striker to help him out not replace him what a load if tripe if that's true dont sign anyone cause we are better of as we are
Can someone on Twitter, tweet him and ask if he wants to leave, and then tell him he is not allowed to or a pitchfork and torch wielding mob will be round his house.
That's highly unlikely. If you follow our captain on twitter, you'd realise he's not going to be on mastermind any time soon, never mind running a clever decoy twitter account to keep the fans happy.
As said by many above, its a load of rubbish. The "facts" in the article are not true e.g. him moving his family north and being out of favour. No quotes from anyone of note and just trying to put 2 and 2 together to make a story.
Or is he really THAT clever that he pretends to be one sandwich short of a picnic but is really so clever that he is the CEO of Megaupload, on the Board of Governors for Addenbrookes Hospital and on the shortlist for Chief Constable and then possibly deceiving everyone and having a decoy twitter account and possibly deliberately not scoring goals so he will get a move back to Carlisle? We do get or £20K a week worth out of him don't we.
well what is interesting is that it's in the guardian, who are not known for writing rubbish. i think it's still clutching at straws though for sure.
