3.50 Kempton Rose Ransom 18/1 Although I'm slightly concerned about this trip stretching her, she's bred to be an awful lot better than her current mark of 62 and with blinkers reapplied on her 2nd start for Mark Johnston I'm hopeful she can run a decent race. A full sister to Group 2 placed Rare Ransom and a half sister to the significantly higher rated horses Raffaelo Santi and Ransomed Bride, Rose Ransom started out her career over in Ireland with Dermot Weld where she had three quick enough runs in Maidens last year before she made her handicap debut with blinkers applied for the first time off a mark of 68 over 7f at Leopardstown in October on soft ground when running what looked a disappointing 4.5L beaten 4th at the time but that form has worked out quite well. The winner was beaten a neck off a 7lb higher mark on his only subsequent start whilst the runner up was defied by a neck next time out as well. Moreover, the 3rd scored off the same mark on his only subsequent start and it wasn't too bad an effort. After that run, she was moved across the Irish Sea to Mark Johnston's operation but, I think significantly, owner Lady O'Reilly has not sold her on. Her last start and stable debut came in a 3 runner affair off a mark of 63 over 10f at Lingfield where she was given an easy time of things and has been dropped 1lb as a result. Today she races off a mark of 62 which is 6lb below her decent handicap debut and I think if she ran up to that level she'd go pretty close here. The reapplication of blinkers leads me to believe that she'll be trying today and hopefully she stays the 1m3f trip. Given that she is bred to be quite a bit better, hopefully she's able to reach her potential at what I think is quite a nice price.
David Pipe (‏@DavidPipeRacing) tweeted: "Grands Crus quiet after his run in the Argento at the weekend. All plans for him currently on hold." David: He hasn't got a fecking prayer of going 3m2f on soft/heavy at Cheltenham. Get him rested up and into the Ryanair and then the Melling Chase and stop ****ing pretending he's a Gold Cup horse.
Fecking bolted in and she was definitely entitled to do that on her pedigree. She stayed 1m3f easily and if I hadn't some concerns about the trip I would have put more on. Not complaining though! Cheers lads and apologies it was posted up so late!
Thanks ROTO - fantastic shout! I've just registered on here so I can pass on my kudos! Ive been lurking around here for about a week now and have had some great tips off you folks already but this one trumps them all i reckon! The knowledge and expertise around here is something else - very pleased I stumbled onto this place!
Great stuff ROTO, cracking odds Johnston worth following blind this time of the year. Posted up earlier
I have not had a bet today but had to log on just to say very well done again ROTO, finding winners is one thing but at a price like that it's quite another thing altogether.
Top stuff ROTO. Was out all afternoon and never had a bet today...shame to miss that one but hopefully a few of the lads were on.
ROTO Get in there lad. 5:10 Wolverhampton Queen Of Skies 14/1 Tim Pitt and Shane Kelly do well when teaming up together, boasting a £21 level stakes profit, meaning that with 5 winners from 34 starts together, they win at big prices. If you take the Gosden horse out of this, Queen Of Skies is entitled to be favourite on maiden form, running with credit against horses who have gone on to be rated in the 70s and 80s. Being by Shamardal, the horse is bred to improve up in trip to a mile and a half today and completely unexposed off a mark of 66, will back it to win at a price off bottom weight.
5.10 Wolverhampton Mazij 33/1 Very small and speculative bet on this one but Peter Hiatt's 5 year old is 5lb below the mark she won over today's C+D a little over a year ago and the same mark she won off on the turf (better on the AW) last August. She's been badly out of form since that turf victory but I think she ran respectably under tender enough handling LTO on the back of slightly more than a 2 month break. Hayley Turner is a very eye catching jockey booking given her only ride on Mazij resulted in her turf victory last year I'm hoping the fact she is booked is because a big run is expected. Peter Hiatt had his first winner in a few month earlier in January and I think she's definitely worth a small e/w in hope rather than expectation.
Get in there ROTO. Great shout. I'm on Candelita each way at 9/1 in this last race. Had three previous bets today - obviously the only one I had chance to post comes last and the other two win. Sods law.
