I dont know if it has been discussed previously and apologies if so.....but is it really the wisest time 4 days before the deadline for the manager and his backroom staff - and indeed any players we might be able to shift on - to be *thousands of miles away? Couldnt this have waited for next week or indeed wouldnt it have been better the week before a less meaningful cup game?

*recollection of geography A-level studies suggest Portugal might not be 'thousands' of miles away but you get the point.

2 birds with one stone, player training and meet targets, possible deal at the same time, outside of the media eye.

In our case, Brucey points out the target player and the rest is sorted by CEO/football director whatever you wish to call them.

SB's bit is done on the phone with other managers - doesn't matter whether he's in Hull or across the other side of the world in, er, Portugal:emoticon-0105-wink:

It's so they can get some proper training done rather than going to Hull Uni 3G pitch or Bishop Burton college 3G like they did last week. Never know might be meeting targets, but getting away from everything and a chance to regroup and do some proper training will be good for them.

Im not disputing the theory of doing it, Im disputing the timing. Last week was the snowy week whereas all this week it is forecast double figures AND it's the worst possible week to be away from the country in terms of transfers.

It's to complete the signings of Silvestre Varela and Miguel Lopes.

He said, randomly picking a right back and striker based in Portugal. :emoticon-0101-sadsm

Brucey wants to top his tan up.

He's not Browny, he doesn't want to use Tanfastic.

Or it could just be that SB likes Portugal. Doesnt he have his own place out there... Its a free jolly. Train in UK winter conditions or a week away in the mildly decent sun.

on the other side of the coin, it keeps aston villa away from James Chester perhaps. Also, Man United cant get to talk to Paul McShane....Phew|!!!!

He was good enough for them once. Didnt he captain their youth team or is that a myth I just made up?

Varela is a big piece os **** and Miguel Lopes signed for Sporting 3 weeks ago.

Éder from Braga would be amazing but he costs over 15 million ;)
