I dont think signing a lower league player in January is a good idea. I'm all for giving lower league talent a chance but they shouldn't be thrown in at the deep end and if we did sign a player like Tom Pope then he would need pre-season to get up to scratch with our team/tactics etc
If we offer the right money im sure theres plenty of strikers out there we could bring in. Charlie Austin for example, offer the right money and he may come. Id rather we spent 2 or 3 mill on a striker who is more than likely capable of stepping up to the prem, than offer the likes of DJ Campbell a 3 year + deal who probably wont cut it if we make the prem.
Tom Pope PortVale 6`3 28 goals this season already red hot....knows the way to the back of the net albeit in league 2 ??
To be fair I don't think Yorkshires No.1 was suggesting we could get Austin for that. Merely pointing out that every player has a price, then making a different point about getting a striker in for £2-3m. Unless I'm mis-reading it?
I havent looked through the list but today Peterborough and Wolves have both reiterated that they want to cash in on Boyd and Ebanks-Blake respectively: Both would be available for 750k Both would be on wages in our bracket Neither are likely to be courted by Prem clubs or the top 2 so we have to be the highest placed team in for them Both are light years ahead of what we have fit at the minute. I honestly think Ebanks-Blake would get us promoted. It's not that hard this football malarkey....
I LOVE it when I see people bigging someone up when they have seen them have one ****ing good game. Jesus Christ, did we not learn anything from Ryan Williams? And when I say 'LOVE it', I clearly mean ****ing despise it and immediately conclude said poster is a twerp (not particularly aimed at you KC, but all such posters). And I am physically shuddering at the thought of Donaldson in a City shirt again. Lets go all out and bring David Jones back in.
Yep, thats where i was coming from Andy Payton. I just meant i think we should spend abit of money, on a player for the long term rather than gamble on DJ.
EBanks-Blake is a good call but we don't know if that's a player SB has even thought about, we can throw names out left right & centre & not one could stick.
Surely a striker who has scored 19 goals this season already in only one leage below is worth a shout at this level, especially when our attack is so appalingly bad and there aren't many options. Who cares if he was **** 8 years ago, he's clearly a player now. You'd have Jon Walters back wouldn't you?
Ah but that wasnt the thread topic. It wasnt 'who has Bruce gone for', it was 'who is actually out there to buy?' Wolves are practically begging teams to come forward and sign him before Thursday so they can cash in before his deal runs out. He cant possibly be looking for more than possibly 500k signing on fee and 15k a week over 2 and a half years in his current situation. If Wolves take 750k thats a total outlay over the duration of his entire deal of £3.2m. Thats a ****ing steal in this day and age.
Yeah but the difference is Walters even showed promise for us. Didnt he get 4 on his debut? He looked brilliant and was a fans favourite until his personal circumstances became difficult. Donaldson never looked good.
I would be alarmed if Bruce isn't on the phone to Wolves and Sylvain constantly the next few days and thrashing out a deal. In fact, he'd be a **** if he's not. Would suit us brilliant in this league, we don't have a striker quite like him in our ranks, and if we go up he'd sure be a handy squad player. If Wolves really are looking to cash in and it's not speculation this should happen, I can't see any reason why it wouldn't.
Indeed they are. Saunders has said his squad is too big and named Ebanks-Blake personally in the media as one who could perhaps move on. That's the equivalent of screaming to all managers "Please come and sign a bloke with 6 months left on his deal and give me some money so I can buy my own players". Obviously being on 'holiday' the week of the transfer window closing doesnt help...
But regardless, it was 8 years ago, he was a youngster then and he's obviously a good striker now. If we had a wealth of strikers available I'd understand that viewpoint but we're hardly in a position to start being fussy over strikers are we?
Well Mr Scotland is no longer available. Would Danny Philliskirk be worth taking a risk on? Yes I know that might be termed as scraping the barrel - but don't we often see that in football. Player given second chance at another club and he performs well for them, and he must have learnt some good points to his game while being coached by quality coaches at Chelsea
