Burnely are indeed a bogey team but the notion we never win on telly is bollox. There are ****loads of times we've won - including probably our 4 greatest ever days in our history - and people just conveniently forget those: Arsenal, Play off final, both play off semis, Stoke at home, Barnsley away...... On another note - do you often get Championship games on telly on a Monday?!?
I always leave Turf Moor pissed off, I think I'll now stay at home and be pissed off in the comfort of my own home.
I remember the win when we absolutely battered them from start to finish and it looked like we'd draw but then Steve Mcfee (was that his name?) popped up with an injury time defelcted winner. Was that under Taylor?
Under Taylor we only played them once Turf Moor and we lost 1-0, thanks to a goal from Ade Akinbiyi(and we drew at home). I think you might be thinking of the 1-0 win we had in 2007 under Brownie, McPhee had a goal disallowed and Turner got the winner in the 90th minute.
Oh aye. I think Im mis-remembering. McPhee (correct spelling) stuck in my mind as I now recall he had about a gazillion chances including p155-easy one-on-ones and fluffed his lines on every one and then I think Turner popped up to rescue us with a header from a set peice. My brain is really struggling this morning. I also remember a shambolic performance under Parky with Danny Mills getting absolutely skinned every time by that tricky winger they had. Did they sell him to Rangers? As I said, my brain.... edit - I think Im thinking of Kyle Lafferty.
I think their "Bogey Team" advantage on that day was counteracted by their having Cotterill as manager. Truly Shyte!
I hope people aren't forgetting we're on sky v Brighton next week. Two chances to be beaten on the telly. Yippee Kay-yay!
I also remember being at some away game which sky covered over recent years during which we sang constantly: "we all hate sky (words to such effect)". May have been Preston away t'other season during which game throughout, the best chant ever was heard for the nation to enjoy: "If your watching on the tele, your a C**T"
So what ? Both good and bad days @ Burnley in the past. 2007/08n season when Turner scored a last gasp Winner springs to mind. Time to put the Burnley hoodoo / bogey to bed and what better place than "Live on Sky"". Allows me to take in a game on the saturday elsewhere. Scunthorpe v. Coventry looks a good one.
So what? Don't you think it'll make a difference to people having a game moved from a Saturday to a Monday. People make plans around games, a Monday night trek to Burnley isn't doable for everyone.
Agreed monday is not good for everyone. BUT the ones who have sky will more than likely stay at home and the ones who dont will go to a pub that does. Then again some may have an extended weekend off work ? ,. FFS, Burnley is not thay far away is it when all said and done.
