Look at it from another perspective. If we went down and not spent the money on the players, what would peoples reactions be then. We have had to go out and sign players to TRY and better our position. If we went down and spent nowt, not signing anyone in jan would of been blamed. Just as not signing anyone in the summer is the reason we are where we are in the first place.
"It's important that top clubs don't lose sight of the fact that it's the English Premier League and English players should be involved. We could lose the soul of British football - the English player." Alan Pardew 2006
The sole of British football, the English players, are too expensive and the young ones we have at our club are not good enough. But I tell you what lets just play them anyway and get relegated. We newcastle fans don't care as long as our young English players get game time. Aye right. England are an embarracement. The England managers can't even be arsed to come up here to watch our games. I'm as patriotic as anyone but Newcastle are my love. I'm sure pardew's sentiments have changed from the 7 years or so since he said that.
Zaha = £14m Sissoko + Gouffran + Mbiwa + Haidara = £13m Even Stevie Wonder can see the sense in that. This is why SAFC have signed overseas players this window too...
We sign who's good enough, not just who's abroad and cheap. Fletcher Johnson Cuellar Saha Magdane N'DiAye
Indeed, I note only one Englishman out of those six too. Ditto ourselves of course on the quality front (HBA, Cabaye, Krul, Anita, Tiote et al....) - it looks as though Carr is turning out to be one of the best scouts in the PL. It's a shame that there no reasonably price quality players on home shores these days. Any that do pop up seem to gravitate towards the top four to sit in the reserves (who can blame them though with the cash that is on offer).
This is why all these FA rules about homegrown players just won't work as homegrown players always cost more than the equivalent foreign player so chairmen and managers will go for the cheaper option. We would all love a team full of homegrown even better local lads it just won't happen IMO, well not until the British players are sold at a reasonable price and not the over inflated ones they currently go for. The best British players are all going to the top teams to as said earlier in this thread sit on the bench instead of looking at teams like us and the barcodes to actually play and, probably improve. Then we get the hand ringing PFA and FA saying the England team are crap because of the foreigners in the leagues, wrong it's because British players are over priced and a lot of the time over hyped sort that out then we might just do something with the national team.
I can honestly say I would rather go to a neutral club (to me) like Fulham for guaranteed first team football at 25k a week then go to Chelsea and sit on the bench and play in the reserves for 70k a week. I would love Carr at our club to be fair, he should be given all the credit, not Pardew.
The WC in S. Africa shouldn't, compleatly, reflect the French players. Their manager was a complete and utter twat. The players could have gone about it differently but the manager should take 70% of the blame - he lost the players respect 2 years previously, was weak man manager and **** tactician. actually, maybe the French FA should take some of the blame as well as they should have sacked him, but were too worried about losing money. Having said that, Pardieu is no Wenger so how he is going to cope with the french contingent at SDA I have no idea.
Kids, they're ****ing awful nowadays, most of them are terrified of getting filled in by some other kid so they all hide indoors! I had to be physically dragged indoors most nights. Obviously this doesn't apply to all kids, there's still many amongst our population who love sport and getting their hands dirty, but nowhere near the same amount as when I was a kid, simply because this junk food consuming, fat, stupid, loser kid culture wasn't a thing, it just didn't exist. My mate's son asked me to play him at Gears of War two when I was at their house last year, he kept saying "watch this, it's epic" after a while I looked at him and said "How old are you?" and he said "11", so I said "You know what's epic mate, playing footy with your mates in the park and one goes in off the bar. In a few years, girls will become "epic" and if you manage to get off with a fit one, then it doesn't come more epic than that, but chances are you won't because you'll be up here talking on your headset to some bloke in Texas". I told his dad about the fact that he's gonna end up a goth and he said Xbox makes him happy and he feels safe in his room. His dad later told me that him and all of his mates do online tournaments. On the flip side, there's a lad in my warehouse at work who is completely computer illiterate therefore doesn't own the internet at home - both of his sons have just been recruited into the Manchester City school of excellence (or whatever it's called nowadays).
I agree there mate. If I were a player I'd want to play rather than warm a bench, honestly. It 's all Carr's work by the way. Pards tells him a position and a style of footballer and Carr finds the gem then Derek does the deal. Apparently Pards has very little input with a signing.
