Sad news that the legendary Wilko has terminal cancer and his planning 4 genuinely "farewell" gigs in March (tickets all gone, £17.50 ones trading at over £100). He and the Feelgoods changed my view of music, and probably my life, when I stumbled into one of their gigs as a 14 year old in 1975 - energy, violence and simplicity. There is a fantastic interview with him on BBCiPlayer (Radio 4 Front Row programme from last Thursday, I think). Any memories to share?
saw him on jools holland promoting his autobiography. his staring slapping style is unique. definitely broke the mold when they made him!
There was a programme about Wilko a couple of years back which was an excellent resume of his career, such a shame so many great musicians of the 60s, 70s and 80s are joining the big band in the sky...
I'm going to the Portsmouth gig on the 23rd. Very sad news, seen him loads of times. Recommend 'oil city confidential' about the feelgoods. Like the 4 year plan, you don't have to be a fan to enjoy it (though it helps)
Wilko was in his element in that"oil city confinditial". It was great movie and its sad to hear about that cancer. Wilko and Lee Brilleaux were the powerhouse of DR Feelgood during the bands early and best days. By the way Doctor Feelgood still going strong without any original members. I was seeing their gig at halfmoon putney in december. They still play a hell of a show.
I was a baby of the late 60's so didnt come to know Feelgood until Milk & Alcohol, then I started to get more into them. It will be a sad loss, a brave and talented man.
