Payne has gone to Peterborough thoughts?
    http://www.theposh.com/news/article/20130126-posh-secure-payne-signing-619856.aspx

'Jack Payne has signed for Peterborough on loan for rest of season. Reaction from Allen to follow. Still waiting for post-match conference...'

Allen on Payne departure: "To play in the championship at his age is a potentially life changing opportunity."

'Other players set for Priestfield exit. Allen: "We've had offers in last 48hrs." Not named but said they weren't in today's squad'.

Could be permanent, we all know that other club that fell through was Crystal Palace, thinking back he nearly went to Peterborough in the summer for around 500-600k but then the agent ruined the deal, I bet he goes for less now which is annoying as we have come across as desperate to let him go.

Gutting that we would let him go on loan because if he goes it is better to be permanent because then he might aswell just stay here as we need someone like him, a strong midfielder is a must.

Beggars belief when you saw the state of our midfield today

Yeah it is mad, we should not be letting him go now if we ain't got anyone else coming in because we are not weak in the center of midfield.

Absolutely barmy decision. We need him in the team, especially as the Wright deal didn't work out. Gregory is now our only recognised "holding" midfielder unless Mad Dog has a change of heart at starts playing everyone's favourite Hobbit. At this moment in time, Jackman and Payne should be the holding midfielders, not Framps or Gregs.

People who are talking about we need to look to the future. How is replacing a 21 year old with raw talent with a 33 year old converted centre back? Sorry but it just does not work out for me. Framps should play centre back not in midfield. Also the fact that he's gone for a loan and not been sold for serious money is worse in my opinion. Although I do suspect he will be signed for a certain amount at the end of the season, providing Peterborough stay up.

Mad Dog is also developing a rather annoying habit of getting rid of all of my favourite Gills players. <grr>

Yeah some decisions are annoying me now, I don't like to knock MA but this is why he got the word Mad in his name and also hearing that Jackman is probably going with this on Kent online twitter by Luke Cawdell.

He says other players so how many I would say that is potentially Jackman and Strevens so if Jackman goes as well we will need 2 midfielders as we are so weak there now which I would have said was a strong place before. I think we need 2 central midfielders, one attacking and one defensive who is strong and likes to get stuck in otherwise we will remain poor as the team we started today will not work.
I can't believe he has gone out on loan, in my opinion it is either permanent or he stays.

Unfortunately this is the way of the club at the moment. All the good youngsters out on loan, bigger teams coming in for our "youngsters" that the management think are not good enough. All we seem to worry about is the "sell on fee", not what value that could be now !

Just don't understand why Payne is out on loan when you see the shambles of the midfield today. Allen better have someone coming in or we will screw up automatic promotion.

I was so happy with how we were earlier in the season but now we look lost. Midfield is seriously light weight.

Agreed. MA got it badly wrong today and I think he realised this and brought Weston on really early. He surrendered the initiative from the start. We seem so slack and lacklustre in the early stages of home games. We should be setting a high tempo from the start and put the visitors right on the back foot instead of letting them settle in easily and allowing them to take charge.Early impressions of Gregory are not the best - not even as good as Jackman or the departed Montrose.

I am sure that Jack Payne was the player who had played the most games for the club up to now and then I think it would be Jackman but with him leaving who would that leave as the player who has played the most games for the club. In my opinion it is important to have players who have played a lot of games for the club and we ain't got that anymore.

Most have been complaining that we have to many midfielders in our squad and now they want another moan due to the fact martin allen wishes to shape his team by getting rid of fringe players and bring in more suited members for the job.

BOYS & GIRLS just calm down we will have replacements in place before this window slams shuts trust me...alwaysright will back me up :emoticon-0105-wink:

lets just hope Frampton and kedwell follow payne , jackman, stevens and flitney out of the door be it a loan or permanently or maybe a loan for birchall...watch this space !

Kedwell and McDonald will work as a pair, watch and see, if you were to do what you are suggesting by letting Birchall, Kedwell and Strevens go that would leave us with Burton and McDonald 2 striker 1 of which is on loan and that would be mad. I think Burton, Birchall, Kedwell and McDonald is enough upfront but I hope you are right that we have another midfielder or two by Thursday.

Hoadie i was referring to one or the other rather than all our attacking players being shipped out (kedwell/birchall) and expect another forward to come in amongst our signings.

a busy week coming up at priestfield !

trust me I'm a good friend of the family and it was not the agent that ended the deal in the summer, but a certain chairman trying to call the odds.
I really get p--sed off with people who think they know whats going on and just guess because there little life holds nothing else.
JP was told a center mid was a blocker and header, not a footballer, so I'm glad he as got out.
point being yesterdays game proves a point.

if you have not spoken to JP don;t comment on things you don't know anything about.

happy - I am some what confused, I have had a read back through this thread and I am obviously missing your point, because I cannot see where anyone has said anything detriment on this thread about JP. If anything I think most people have complimented him. Maybe you would like to highlight the issues to me about this particular thread, so I can reconsider my view.

ps. just had another look through, I can only think you are referring to a line within Hoadie's OP. However, as you appear to be a good friend of the family and appear to be suggesting you know the truth, maybe you would like to write an exclusive thread for not606 to put the record straight?

btw just for my personal record I have already made my views loud and clear on our younger player departures, if in doubt just ask Lenny (sense of humour).

I think at the time it was made out that the agent had ruined the deal because if I was to look back for the thread in the summer I remember the Peterborough chairman saying it was agreed but then the agent went back on the deal and wanted to change it. However on the subject of Jack Payne all I can do is thank him for his service I am gutted that he has gone.
