the substance being the reporters writing names they got from bruce, unless bruce is talking out his arse
trouble is we dont really know who there is available as most of us arent in the privileged position to have the phone numbers of the right people ..but im sure there are plenty if the price is right..
Tom Pope has had a mention before and he looked excellent midweek. Decent size, mobile and clearly a poacher from his opportunistic goal. I know it's a step up but I'd rather have a bang inform striker desperate to prove himself and brimming with confidence from a lower league than some posturing match rusty 'proven' champ/prem goalscorer. We need someone in and if the names getting passed around aren't going to come off then bosh, decent offer, decent terms and at least we can mix things up a bit.
Looks good, young lad but not much experience. Anyway, he'll be playing for Oldham in the next round of the cup.
The thing is we need a goalscorer as we all know, We havent got mega bucks so they have to be relatively cheap, It's preferable that they have a proven record at this level, and (IMO this is the Biggie) they have to want to come to Hull. And to be fair, I cant think of many names that tick the boxes. Unless of course we take a punt on a lower league/SPL player and hope they cut it, Or try to get a decent young lad on loan from the PL and maybe unearth a new FC. It's certainly not going to be an easy week for Steve Bruce.
If there's no decent strikers available, it makes you wonder how most of our competitors have just managed to sign one each...
Lee miller from Carlisle experience in the championship, good scoring record and wouldn't the over the top costs, so seems an ok player.
Would rather go for Jake Cassidy and Jose Baxter from League One, more pace than Donaldson who only got 11 the year before. Huge risk on any of those three. Otherwise i am very unsure on who to go for, no-one in League Two takes my eye with Pope being a let down before this season. Maybe worth look abroad. However we need a striker, anyone would do at this stage, the lower leagues offer you more value for money in terms of wages and agents fees etc. A striker such as Austin will cost 5-6M in fees, 1M to agent, and a five year deal on god knows how much, far to much. Yet he would guarantee us the goals. However we spend that we then need to spend again when we go up on a whole new team nearly, so then we end up not making money but losing money from the Premiership again. So i wouldn't join the spend 5M on a striker brigade.
Donaldson ffs, I despair. We released him in League One because he wasn't good enough. We might as well just recall Mclean(which ridiculously, we seem to be considering).
I know Sb said it but more likely micks saying get ridof the **** he is useless, we dont want him. I would just about give him to Posh and hope he does some good in familiar surroundings and takes some points off our rivals. They've done well against the top sides.
Sorry, but there are few players that 'guarantee' goals/creatity etc. Other than the cream of the crop - messi, Ronaldo - you can't assume that someone who looks superb at one club will be superb at another. Granted, you'd hope that if we spent a chunk of cash on someone, they'd do well but it's not a certainty. There have been many high profile examples where a seemingly great player has gone to another club and seemingly been a flop, then gone elsewhere and looked a star player again e.g. Berbatov, veron to name but 2. The main problem we have is that there really isn't that much 'guaranteed' quality around, so for the most part everyone is a risk. If someone is available that SB genuinely thinks will make a difference, my own view (and i stress it's my own view so let's not get into the 'why do you believe that blah blah blah) is that the owners will back him. We all know that we need a striker. We all hope that there is someone who will come. We all want the club to do what is necessary to get someone. So let's stop the bickering and sniping at one another/SB/the allams, if not only until the window closes so that we actually know what we've got in the building. That we could still get an emergency loan will of course mean there are still options but that's just a whole extended argument waiting to happen!
Lee miller from Carlisle, and how well does the carlisle manager know hull city, pretty well i suspect, £1M and £10k a week should do it
