Now I know it's only Twitter, but there seems to be a rumour doing the rounds that Nige was forced out as some of the players (led by Rickie and Morgan) told Nicola that Nigel was tactically inept....... Anyone know anything more about that? Slightly concerning if true......
In a nutshell i would assume that is a false claim. i know there is a select few people ITK so to say on twitter, but 90% of what i read about saints on there is dreamed up.
It's not concerning because we have a new manager now...would be worrying if there was team dissent against an incumbent manager. I would be surprised if every player was happy. However, I find it very sad that Adkins reputation is being questioned now...let sleeping dogs lie.
I'm inclined to think bullshit, but there was a thread a little bit ago about how elated Lallana's best mate was with Adkins being sacked.
Well yes, but I'd be concerned if players were afforded that much power over and above a manager. Completely agree though regarding NA's reputation. Scurrilous rumours aren't terribly helpful (though I do realise the irony in saying that having created this post).
I doubt whether Cortese would give a toss what the players think, Adkin's sacking was Cortese idea. And it seems a bit odd that the man who got us back to back promotions and was steering us clear of relegation was "tactically inept".
I believe the players were instructed to play how they already know, such was the limited time that Mauricio had with the team!
I think if we all conclude this is utter balls then I'll ask for the thread to be taken down. I don't want to be seen to be contributing to unhelpful rumour mongering.
I think there may be some truth in this. Just from I've seen/heard and as Dan says with the other comments. However, I do not believe if this was a contributing factor it would be the only one. Having spent c. £30m in the summer and sitting just a couple of points above the drop, it is likely that Cortese was not best pleased either?
Do you remember all the rumours about Pardew...each more fanciful than the last. True or not...Adkins doesn't deserve this. He should be remembered for two great seasons and the fact that he turned results round and would probably have kept us up. He may not have been good enough for our next step or he may have been still learning...doesn't matter now.
the lack of any quality on the bench pretty much dictats the team. Its not like he has the choice of Rooney or RVP to bring on to try and win a match
I was only saying to my wife (the day before Nigel was axed) that we have the cleverest manager in the league with his brilliant tactics against Chelsea - of course she didn't care - and some people here have forgotten already!
Nonsesne I suspect. Much as I'm not a big fan of Manure, Fergie's got it right there. Everyone knows that SAF is numero uno and if it's a player or the manager, the manager wins out. Witness the departure of Beckham and Rooney being sidelined when he was playing up.
I am of the opinion that the Chelsea result was more down to the home crowd turning on their players when they were 2 up rather than Nigels tactical awareness, it did work for him though, so you can't knock it. There were a lot posting on here saying that SLR should have been on at the start and we may have won, pure speculation and hypothetical. Others say SLR was unhappy at not being first pick, conspiracy theorists having a field day, reading between the lines and 2 plus 2 soon becomes a dozen!
