    Pardew: Euro sceptic

Speaking about the newly-arrived quartet of players purchased from French league clubs, Alan Pardew told Radio Newcastle on Friday that:

"It's not where we want to go. We want to make our own players, but the truth is the players from the academy we put in haven't produced.

"I'm hoping it's too early for them, and that Sammy (Ameobi), Shane Ferguson, James Tavernier and Adam Campbell come through. They need to, because we can't keep buying players.

"If you can't learn about being a person and a footballer from Yohan Cabaye, then you shouldn't be a footballer. The guy gives you everything.

"He's not a local boy, he's not from London or Manchester - he's from France. It's about good players and that's what the Newcastle's fans want.

"The game has changed, the English game is morphing into the European game. There's more thinking, the passion and the speed is often tweaked up for the Premier League."

Speaking of the Academy, Friday saw United deny reports that they had failed to gain Category One status from the Premier League for their youth setup.

I thought they failed the Category 1 test agesssssssss ago. Why respond to that now? Have they had another assessment since then?

    Pardew's bang on though, most of our youth players are horrible. This is where I see their futures;

Shane Ferguson - Championship, before falling down the leagues.
Harris Vuckic - He'll pick up injuries forever, and retire from the game around 26 years old.
    James Tavernier - League 1/2.
Adam Campbell - Pacey so potentially very injury prone, seems so thus far. He's not troubled the first team despite striker crisis.
Abeid - I have serious doubts he'll get a conference club to sign him after his contract with us ends.
Sammy Ameobi - He will not improve at all. But of course he's staying with us til he retires. If we go down he might be useful, same with Shane really.

Sunderland and Boro have had the beating of us in the youth ranks for years.

You have to wonder where all the local lads are. Maybe there just haven't been the players but when you hear of Geordies in the Premiership who came through the youth ranks of other teams then questions have to be answered.

We don't seem to progress players and it gets to the point where you wonder if you would encourage your own son to go to Newcastles youth academy over other teams.

I'm afraid Sunderland and Boro have had a march on us for a long time. Sunderland especially I see as something of a pioneer in England's youth system. They had trial systems, academy days and activities across a wide area managed by experienced and qualified coaches. I went to one as a kid when I was living in Yorkshire. I'm not sure Newcastle even do this now, some 10 years later!

If I had a kid, and he had to choose between the academies, I don't think I'd advise him to go into Newcastle's if he wanted to be a premiership player.

Bit of brutal honesty there, but it might do these lads some good. They haven't shown enough and have work to do.

    what a load of rubbish

Newcastle have and always will produce some of the best footballing youth, regardless if its 1 every 10 years or not, Id rather have an alan shearer once a decade then have 20 sammies.

Our current youth system paved the path for steven taylor. one of the best defenders in the prem. Andy carol (who i still think is coming back to us before 2015) not to mention you say adam cambell. He was an electrician for the council 3 years ago, Got a good trial and heres been knocking on that first team door. Not bad for 2 years worth of pro football.

He is our next wonder kid.

Newcastle produce quality youth, not alot of average quality

If it wasnt for andy we would av bennie, cabaye, tiote, debuchy, Basically all of our last 2 seasons signing.

    Thanks to your youth academy.

the mackems and the smoggies, Can do what they like, We are doing just fine!

anyone dare question the Newcastle uniteds cooperation will have to answer to my rants

Shearer came from Southampton's academy because we rejected him as a youth <doh> We played him in goal during his trial <doh><doh><doh>

Newcastle the area has lots of talent, but the academy we have is far from good.

That was Michael Richardson. Soon to be fixing up electrics in the North East soon! Campbell has always been a good prospect, represented England at every level I think? We need to produce more if we want to be self sufficient. Ou youth system is fairly poor. Southampton produced Shearer by the way. Carroll ana Saylor are decent players no more. Its been a long time since we produced much quality.

One second let me get my real life glasses and not the black and white ones

Okay so shearer went through southampton youth. Big deal, If we had not of rejected him then he would not have had such a desire to stay at newcastle or to come to newcastle.......Quickly runs away

michael richardson.. I see i thought he was doing well and that was him. lol never mind must be cos they are both red haired lads

Still Newcastle dont have the footballing grounds, pitches, local leauges to be able to compete at youth academy level. there is not enough investment in youth football sadly

    But still

Steven taylor without injuries would have been the best defender newcatle have had since a fit woodgate.

Andy witout the attitude and egotistical nature he has, Still is the best english striker. balls baldy wayne rooney. in 5 years time i promise everyone of you lovely georide people andy carol will get us 30 in 1 season :)

I said he would be sold, I said we would be promoted when we were relegated, i did however say we would get straight back into europe on the first time trying

And i am saying right now

Steven taylor is the 4th best defender in the prem and andy will come back to us for 15 million and score 20 goals, then 30 goals in the first 2 seasons

The lanky cockney born Geordie blooded grass hopper. Is never wrong

I'd like Carroll back at some stage because I think he will always perform for us. Its built into him. However his injuries (like Saylor sadly) are becoming all too frequent. Remi Streete and Campbell are the ones I hope can do something first team wise. Hopefully the investment and work done with the Carroll money will eventually see a more consistent production of talent. The upskilling in coaching nationwide will see a better quality of player produced, even if it may be a decade away.

i have faith in young fergy and sammi when they are on the pitch to produce special and unique moments. They may not be 100% consistancy, But confidence from myself and the manager in that player means more then what you see them do with a ball over a period of 60 seconds. They would not be there if they were not good enough

insomnia and milner were classic examples of these.

I like what I've seen of Campbell, but he does seem a bit on the frail side, do you think we'd get a full season out of him?
