Well if we're doing that then we may as well take that bid and offer it Sporting's way instead for Wolfswinkle. They are struggling in the league much like ourselves (1 above the drop zone I believe) but unlike us are in massive financial difficulties. If we're serious about a new striker which this reported bid seems to indicate we are then I can see us reaching a deal with Sporting.

Maybe thats the plan, to play sporting and st êtienne off against each. We should have put the same bid in for both players at the same time and told them both that...see which one blinks first !

We don't seem too far apart in the negotiation. This level of detail usually means there's substance to the rumours....

Reported 10m Euro Offer By NUFC But 12m Will Land Aubameyang

Late last night we brought you claims from France (see below) that Newcastle could still be in the market for the extra quality striker we are desperate for, Mercato365 were reporting that Newcastle had offered St.Etienne 10.5m Euros for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Elsewhere it was suggested that Newcastle had completed their transfer activity for this window but now this morning L’equipe (thanks as always to Pierre) have just reported that Newcastle have offered 10m Euros for Aubameyang, with the French club holding out for 12m Euros.

    From L’equipe;

The leaders of ASSE (St.Etienne) are currently negotiating with their English counterparts. For now, the Magpies are willing to put 10 million euros on the table in order to get their international from Gabon while the Greens (les verts- St.Etienne ) hope to recover 12 million.

    (Last Night) Friday 11.07pm

Now French media organisation Mercato365 are claiming that Newcastle have made an offer of 10.5m Euros for the Gabon international who has scored 18 goals in his last 36 starts for the French club.

    Newcastle : Offer for P-E.Aubameyang

Newcastle have sent an offer for the Etienne striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who is also courted by Manchester City.

According to an English source, Newcastle have made an offer an offer of 10.5 million euros, plus bonuses, for Etienne striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (23 years), also courted by Manchester City. Despite the arrival of Yoan Gouffran (26) from Bordeaux, who has signed for four and a half years, the Magpies would also be interested in signing the Gabon international, whose contract expires in June 2016.

After recruiting Mathieu Debuchy (Lille), Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa (Montpellier), Massadio Haidara (Nancy), Moussa Sissoko (Toulouse) and also Yoan Gouffran, the club led by Alan Pardew seems to still be interested in the French League.

The Greens (Les verts) are hesitating to accept the offer from the club lying sixteenth in the Premier League (which has just failed in its attempt to poach Bastia’s Florian Thauvin).

What is clear (to me) is that Newcastle are still desperate for another goalscorer in this transfer window so who knows…

Can't see this happening until the summer. We won't sign Van Wolfswinkel, seems we're after Aubameyang and are willing to wait. Might be for the best, he's definitely a little 'raw'.

Seems there was substance to the rumours yesterday that we had made an offer for Aubameyang:

"Official Statement – Association Sportive de Saint-Étienne

After rumours about a possible departure of Pierre Emerick Aubameyang to Newcastle published today in several media, AS Saint-Etienne wishes to clarify that the player, his agent and club officials have declined by mutual agreement all proposals that have been submitted so far. Recognizing the importance of the challenges facing the ASSE until the end of the season, Pierre Aubameyang Emercik has always shown a desire to complete the sports project at the expense of financial aspects. The ASSE can only praise the state of mind of their player."

Whilst it's a shame that the offer was rejected it's good to know we are trying to sign that extra striker we need... And seem willing to shell out quite a large sum to do so.

It's also interesting that they have worded it thus:

"player, his agent and club officials have declined by mutual agreement all proposals that have been submitted so far"

The 'so far' seems to be a fairly clear 'up your offer and you might get lucky' statement.

    Hope we do.
