Benteke - A future target?

We have a quick striker/winger type goalscorer in Gouffran. We have a good, instinctive striker in Cisse.

Most of us wouldn't be against getting an Andy Carroll type striker in. A lot of us would have taken Carroll back, but his injuries have ****ed him up recently and I personally think the lad will have to drop down a league to play football in the future. A move away from the club has killed him. Only we knew how to use the lad properly. Liverpool made him lose weight and become more techincal. That's not how a 6ft 4 inch aerial threat should be used.

Anyway. I'd personally not take Carroll back now. But I would like us to go after a target man, so we can play alternate style, and offer different types of threats going forward.

Benteke is the best target man in the league IMO and he will be immense as he grows up. He's 6ft 4 and wins absolutely everything in the air. He's not quite there yet, but the lad has fantastic potential.

He's basically like Carroll but he has more of a brain and is a better finisher.

If Villa go down, I'd go for him. He'd be worth the 6-8m price tag.

 

You would have saved yourself some time by saying he's a young Demba Ba...

I think he's a great player, but even if we stay up and Villa go down, he's not French and he'll probably command a massive fee and be signed by a top club!

I really rate the lad too. Bit inconsistent, but he's a wonderful player when he's on form!

 

Nah, Ba wasn't what I'd call that much of a target man. Carroll is far more effective in the air than Ba.

Ba's strength just gives him the edge in holding players off and better shot power. Carroll won a lot in the air.

Benteke wins everything.

 

Still, saying Villa go down, they'll probably ask a ridiculous fee for him. They paid about £8 million didn't they? They spent quite a bit in the summer in relative terms, how come Lambert hasn't bit the bullet yet?

 

I like Benteke, I just think they'd want a lot more for him than we would be prepared to pay.

 

he cost them 7 mill so would probably cost more than what we would be willing to pay. but a great player think he would be worth paying extra fee

 

Andy Carroll should be our main target this summer - let's sell Cisse and give back the 9 to it's rightful owner.

 

He'd be an ideal player for Stoke. Let's hope they don't break the bank for him

Not for me at the moment, very raw and inconsistent. Reminds me of Obafemi Martins, moments of genius, and moments of blasting easy chances over the bar.

I reckon he could turn into quite a player though, but needs to fulfill the potential.

 

I have to say I like the look of the lad. Loks as strong as an ox. Kinda like a young legged Shola.

I like Benteke more than Carroll definitely. But he'll have the pick in the summer if Villa do drop, with a price to match.

But keep Cisse, we don't wanna replace him with anyone but ADD to the striking line please!

We have better targets abroad I believe than both these guys though...

 

Think he'll go for big money when/if Villa go down especially given the money they paid for him.

Definitely think we need a different option to Cisse up front, but don't really want to go back down the Carroll route - how many players go back to their old club and really perform second time round?

Pardew has already suggested a new striker is on the cards for the summer, so I reckon Carr's already out loking for better value than either of the above

 

You never know, maybe Benteke has a relegation release clause... (Carr knows)

 

If Carr doesn't, then honest 'Arry Redknapp certainly will

 

I like Benteke a lot but suspect he'll be out of our range. To be honest adding Carroll to our current squad could be frightening.
