Aluko's just tweeted that he's buying a new pair of boots because he never wears the pair he got injured in again. Let's hope they're the last pair he buys for a long time
Same! I thought they got them free from sponsorship deals and what not, though to be fair, whats 200 quid to a professinal?
I got given a pair of Nike Mecurials by a lad at work, a bit tramp like on my part but they were going begging. These boots cost well over a hundred quid a pop and I wouldn't wipe my arse on them, even if I could. It's no wonder players get injured so often ( especially metatarsal injuries) as these new style boots offer no protection at all, it even hurts when you kick the ball. These Mecurials may weigh a few ounces less but give me a pair of Puma Kings or Nike Tiempo any day of the week. I probably sound really old.
I know you're in jest but you're totally right. Football boots were invented to give protection. Now they're a slipper that apparently makes a cleaner contact with the ball. That's not what they're for.
He should get some Gola Goalmaster, proper boots. Scored tons of goals with em at Endike and never ever got injured. Got kicked plenty. I never missed a game till i was 35, that was playing satdee's and then sunday morning- not in the Gola's tho.
A few lads at school only owned rugby boots and played football in 'em in PE. ****ed if I was going anywhere near a great big prop forward masquerading as a centre half in his Adidas Flankers. They were basically diving boots with studs, any contact with those monsters and it was straight to casualty.
The same goes for the flaky bits of plastic they call shin pads. What happened to the long ones with ankle supports and straps around the thigh. I dont get why they are allowed to use them.
Some makers have started reproducing classic boots, here's some proper old school ones from Hummel, £90. please log in to view this image The past is the future....
They could double up as fashion trainers for a Saturday night down Prinny Ave. Same could not be said for those high visibility neon mothers that half our players wear. Brown boots and short back and sides. It's the way forward.
Adidas predators ala van persie for me, more comfortable than any boot, ive ever had, my boy has adidas f50s with his name embroidered on the side.
I'm with you on the Kings but would bin them for a decent retro Patrick Kevin Keegans - my first decent boot!
Most Epic pair of boots ever http://i465.photobucket.com/albums/rr20/Merseysports/Mersey Sports Album 2/382367a800.jpg
Not so old young fella....these were my first boots - you had to carry spare studs & hammer a new one in with bloody nails when you lost one gouging out an eye of one of those tricky effing wingers ! http://t3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTd6HJYil0nHaNSSiFq4Rl_yWVQsjqNUFyQ1LzIUo8g1GrgL4JKJA
Yeah, who needs to kick a ball accurately eh? I wouldn't mind, but at the same time as people are saying the boots don't offer enough protection, 'modern' footballers are criticised for being too soft and wanting extra protection. You can't have it both ways... I agree about the shin pads though, the other day I was wearing some new ones for the first time and I managed to get kicked in the shins three times in the match, each one totally evading the area covered by the pad. They don't look small but they hardly cover anything.
