Interesting rumour! 22 Jan 2013 00:19:18 Watford interested in signing free agent Craig Gordon as an experienced back up goalkeeper to Almunia -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Not heard this one before but Craig Gordon is a great keeper but fell foul to injuries. Not sure how good he is now but couldn't get a game at Sunderland after breaking his arm. Didn't he cost £10million? {Ed039's Note - Was £9 million, and dont see him playing back up to Almunia, Gordon with one arm is still miles better than him) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Not only a Back up, maybe a possible challange to Almunia.. Hope this one has some truth about it.. Would be a Very good free Just like Hall and Almunia.. Hope Hall stays too.. Anbody any opinions on the back three with The ' makeshift' defence of Nosworthy Doyley doing very well.. Hall Doyley Hoban Ekstrand Nosworthy And before Neuton's injury they have all played the part at the back guess that's the bonus of three CB You will be able to play them all often in a whole season -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 22 Jan 2013 09:41:28 I heard Hall was talking to Charlton, be gutted if the big left as he is the difference at the back for us -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 22 Jan 2013 09:42:31 Cmon ed, Alumnias been quality this season, it was impossible to succeed at arsenal... {Ed039's Note - I suppose so, but do you think that maybe Championship is his level? I thought he done OK at Prem but that was it, just OK, Craig Gordon might be a bit of a liability now with his injury situation, but if, and a very big if as well, if Craig Gordon could get back to somewhere near his best, then he is a much better keeper, thats all) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sorry Ed my bad (only £9mil) Almunia is a great championship keeper and good professional. Went to the Bristol game and he trained hard in the quagmire of a pitch before it got called off. But I agree that see Gordan is a better keeper if his injuries haven't compromised him. Could have gone on to big things if he hasn't been unlucky. Maybe he can kick start a new premiership career with watford -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Craig Gordon is a class keeper. Before his injuries he was suberb for Sunderland. If you sign him I hope he can reproduce the form when he was at his best. Good luck to him and your club. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Vyrdar to sign?!! This looks VERY promising from his agent: http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11095/8428461/
I'm a little bit worried about the fact that in that Vydra to sign article it talks about what will happen next season, if watford do not go up this year Vydra would be one of the players I would be desperate to keep yet I have a feeling if we do go up then he will be the first to go.
Yes I think that is the subtext.... he will be worth more at the end of the season which ever way it goes...
Deffo, but not definately this season. Vydra, or well his agent, seems to be saying he'll be here until the ned of the season and then if we don't go up he'll be off.
Hang on folks the quote from Vydra's agent is "...Originally, I did not want to push the matter, but now when I see how people in this club would like to make that [a permanent deal] happen, it is very likely that Matej will become a Watford player in January...." Why would Vydra "become a Watford player in January" only to be sold in the close season? Surely if the intention was to sell Vydra this year it would make no sense to make him a Watford player now.
yes but he also says this "[But] we want Matej to stay with Watford at least until the summer. We are not planning any rush move for him.
I imagine if he did put pen to paper, the headlines would be more likely to read 'Vydra signs 3/4/5 year deal with hornets' over 'Vydra signs for 6 months'
The new rumour thats making me laugh is the Vydra to Brighton rumour, (obviously by a Brighton fan that was at the game where he tore them apart) shows still that even now some people just o not know how this new watford is being run, Bassini's gone now! we dont accept the 1st offer for our top scorer (like we did with Graham)
One of my colleagues who is a Tottenham supported has told me they are looking at Vydra. I don't think he'll be leaving us this season but if he carries on scoring like he is, we'll be waving goodbye to him in July .
Not entirely true with Danny Graham. He had a release clause in his contract at £3M, so actually £3.5M was a good deal. Didn't matter if he was worth £5M or more, the release clause said that he could go if he wanted to if we received an offer over £3M. I suspect there are no such clauses in Vydra's contract with Udinese, and hopefully they see a future, larger, transfer value if he stays a bit longer. We will wait and see! We do have to accept though that the Pozzo business model is get good young talent in and then sell at the right price in the future. If Vydra carries on performing well we will lose him one day, but hopefully at a very good price and with replacements coming through
I'd say the best scenario is Vydra to sign for us in January on a 4/5 year contract, we get promoted, Vydra to have a belter of a season for us next year and offers start coming in £10m+. This is more like the Pozzo way, rather than selling him this January for a few million. You do have to wonder about the player power though. Apparently he has a year and a half left on his contract. He could decide to just stay at us on 'loan' for the rest of the season. This would leave one year left on the contract. If he won't sign a new one (with us or Udinese), will the owners decide to sell him for a much less fee rather than risk him going on a free in a years time! I hope this isn't going through his or his agent's head, and would like to stick with a Pozzo club (preferably us) after their initial outlay (£3m?), and sticking with him through his injury! As for brighton...? No disrespect, but no chance!
Sounds good to me, but as with most young players are they going to look at the future or the thought of playing EPL football now and for a substantial pay rise? I agree with you Kev, but I guess a lot depends on what kind of agent he has and also how persuasive the Pozzo's can be to keep him? (Maybe someone can tell him about Sordell and how it could be better to wait than jump in and get forgotten for a while)
I have to think that the Prem is a bigger 'shop window' than Serie A. I have no doubt that if we do go up Vydra will stay with us. But if we (somehow) fail I think he will stay in England elsewhere (but it will NOT be Brighton).
With a 20 year old Wilfried Zaha seemingly going to Manchester United for £15m, do we think £10m is lower than what a 20 year old Matej Vydra should get?
