Our situation is nothing like that of southampton? http://http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11700/8428233/Saints-masterplan
It really isnt. Nick was in my opinion doing a poor job and we were getting worse by the week. Nobody could say Adkins was doing a poor job.
I think they were just implying that sometimes decisions have to be taken in football that may or may not then lead to success but that emotion cannot be involved in that decision. In our case the sacking of Barmby being a home grown hero by the Allams who ultimately made a decision in both business and footballing terms as they are both inextricably linked nowadays.
Agreed. But also we did not have his successor already primed to take over a month before his sacking!
Nick was playing a great system with the wrong players, were as Bruce the better and more experienced manager knows its about getting the best out of your players so he has played a system to suit them. Suiting Faye as he can't run so he has the more mobile centre halves(Chezzy and Brucey/Hobbs) Either side of him, well that's what we started with this season. It suits Elmo as he prefers coming from deep and running at them rather than getting in behind. It allows Koren and Quinn to attack a lot when we have possession, and gives Aluko a free role. Just shows how good Steve Bruce is if you ask me, he's been phenomenal.
A manager can't just start playing a certain way. It depends whether you have the players for the system and what league are in. You have to consider where you are trying to be the season after and what is possible with funds and players available. I think owners can only do their best with the off field activities to make it as easy as possible for management and players. There's too many variables in football to be too rigid in ways of playing.
You can't compare the team's of NB and SB. I think it' s a good article and we are not too bad a comparison as NB was short of time with someone else's squad (he had lost the plot a bit, but not terminally) and finished reasonably well; NA did well but made some scary decisions and he was not gelling with the owner's vision. The rest of the article offers a well written view that makes you think of the bigger picture - good journalism.
