Sincerely hope that we don't end up waiting until the last minute, loose our target transfers and end up with a panic buy/loan a la CMS and Kane. With other clubs around us strengthening their squads I am concerned that we accept the status quo and attempt to survive the Prem without reinforcements.
if we really do want hooper, and we believe celtic value him at around 7m, why are we low-balling bids? this is a simplistic view and we don't want to pay over the odds, but if we really want him then bid what they think we will accept? maybe we only want him at 5-5.5m.
I suppose its a case of haggling, most people when they sell things 'value' them at more than they are worth. My hope is that we are being quick with return bids (if any more are to be made), and they are being quick in their response. My fear is that they will hold to bids and leak them (or agents will) as to begin a bidding war.
Only if they sign the immobile lump that is Kenwyne Jones, I'd imagine. If I were laudrup, I'd stick rather than twist on that one!! Welcome to the forum, Pablo - where in mid-Norfolk are you from?
Thanks Cromer, Dereham be my place of residence. Nice to be here, got a bit fed up of the Pink'un's forum - so much bitching between memebers, you would never believe they all support the same team. Heard things a bit calmer here!
And even then, it's only a playful nibble I used to work in Dereham, the ex off licence in the market place next to the chippy and both sets of grandparents lived there for many years. I can even remember (just) the steam trains that used to run from there up to Wells via Fakenham. Yes, I am that old!
I hoped we would sign someone by Friday so they could play in the cup (unless its Graham) and get some confidence up by banging in a few for their new club against lowly opposition. Cant see it happening now unfortunately. I really hope we stop fanning around with stupid low bid for players who are clearly worth more! Its not a case of "he has only scored at SPL level" it is a case of he is banging goals in and he is worth £7m+ to his club! Lets make a proper £7-8m bid for him and get him on board before bigger sides such as Spurs steal in and pinch our targets! I also hope the whole Graham thing has gone quiet because he is in talks and not because he has chosen Sunderland! Imagine that! He chooses a club he is on record as not liking over us! In terms of Bridcutt, iv never seen him play but sounds like he is pretty good (and not very old I believe?). Can we afford Graham, Hooper AND Bridcutt?! Its extremely unlikely but I WOULD LOVE IT IF WE SIGNED ALL THREE!
i agree with this completely, especially with their manager making public the bids we have made and roughly how much they were. i guess we will see now how much the club really want him, or go to other pans in the fire
Yeah, I guess we will have other targets if this one fails. It seems a shame thet we could have got our number one targets in already if we had just shown a bit more conviction in our bids. I do get the whole haggling thing but don't start so low we get laughed at! Hooper is obviously worth more than £5m! He has scored in the Champions league and now has nearly 60 goals in just over 80 apps for Celtic! Some people consider the SPL to be League one/Championship level so by that rationale, if Jordon Rhodes went for £8m then Hooper is going to be AT LEAST £7m! I say we either go reasonably big for Hooper (perhaps not as much as £10m but £7m to 8.5m) or turn our attention elsewhere. It has been said before that we don't want to go all QPR and panic buying everyone who has scored a goal at whatever price but if we have identified targets, lets go out and get them! Yeah, yeah reasonable price etc etc, what price can you put on our survival?! I am not convinced we will be safe if we do not get striking options this window who can offer us some goals and a bit more technical ability. I am not panicking btw! Just frustrated I guess

Personally I think it would be foolish to go straight in with a high bid. Yes it may mean you get your man, but equally if our first bid was say 7 million Celtic may say well lets try and get 10 then. Its all about negotiation. The club know how much money they have to spend and how much they feel a player is worth. Yes he may help keep us up, but equally he could flop, we could go down and we are stuck with a player on high wages who wants to play at a higher level. The clubs long term future is much more important than risking lots of money on staying up.
