In an action packed opening 20 minutes Orient claimed the lead through a magnificent Martin Rowlands free kick after six minutes but Paul Hayes equalised with just over a quarter of an hour gone. And Clayton Donaldson fired the Bees into a half-time lead as the O’s failed to clear Sam Saunders’ corner with six minutes remaining in the opening period. Everton loanee Jake Bidwell was sent off for two yellow cards after 57 minutes and the 19-year-old will now miss the clash with the Blues. David Mooney then saw a penalty saved by Brentford goalkeeper Simon Moore with just over 15 minutes remaining, after Lee Hodson was deemed to have fouled former Bee Charlie MacDonald. But the drama was not over as Lee Cook curled home a fantastic equaliser to draw Orient level. Brentford manager Uwe Rosler left Marcello Trotta, Harry Forrester and Toumani Diagouraga on the bench from the side that is expected to face Chelsea in the FA Cup fourth round on Sunday. But the home side should have taken the lead after 37 seconds as Adam Forshaw weaved his way through the Orient defence. But with only goalkeeper Jamie Jones to beat, he blazed his shot wide from 12 yards. The Bees were made to pay for that miss as the O’s took the lead in the sixth minute. Paul Hayes was deemed to have fouled Lloyd James in a central position, 25 yards from goal. Martin Rowlands, who left Brentford for QPR in 2003 and is now a hate-figure at Griffin Park after he kissed the Rangers badge a season later, stepped up and expertly placed the free-kick into the top corner. The 33-year-old cupped his ear to the main stand of Griffin Park celebrating as ran towards the Orient fans, such was his glee. The lead only lasted 10 minutes as the O’s only half cleared a corner and when Sam Saunders sent the ball back into the area, Hayes was on hand to tap home from close range. Orient should have retaken the lead on the half hour mark as Lee Cook crafted his way past Lee Hodson and his low cross was fired over the bar by Jimmy Smith. Jones had to be alert to deny Saunders, who scored two free-kicks in the 5-0 win for Brentford last season, from another set piece as the opening half entered the final seven minutes. But from the resulting corner, Brentford were in front as Donaldson turned the ball home from close range as Jones claimed he was fouled in the build-up. Harlee Dean nearly made it three from the following corner but the former Southampton defender headed wide. However, at the other end, Bees stopper Simon Moore had to be alert to deny Smith’s header from Cook’s cross. Brentford should have been out of sight on the stroke of half-time when Tony Craig saw his header from a Saunders corner deflected over. Jones came to Orient’s rescue again when he turned Donaldson’s fierce shot from eight yards around the post after some fantastic control by the Bees striker. But Bidwell, already booked for an off-the-ball incident, before half-time, was dismissed 12 minutes into the second half for a foul on Smith. Midfielder Tom Adeyemi was sacrificed with Bees boss Rosler bringing on full back Scott Barron in his place. Orient looked to make their numerical advantage count and the bees went even more defensive when Rosler brought on full back Shaleum Logan for striker Paul Hayes in the 69th minute. Orient were given a golden opportunity to equalise when Hodson was judged to have fouled MacDonald in the area and referee Tierney pointed to the spot. Mooney stepped up but Moore dived to his right to turn the ball away for a corner. And Orient made their advantage count with four minutes remaining when Cook curled home a stunning goal from 25 yards that left Moore stranded. They are so bitter, they had a 100 page thread about our relegation last season, it was a great read in the summer after we were safe, I bet they have another one going for this season as well.

Good on the ex-R's! Didn't realize Jimmy Smith was on loan 2006-07 at QPR for 29 games and scored 6 goals, a better scoring average than some of our current strikers. If he had stayed we could have had Jimmy and Tommy Smith playing together like the Morgans. For double trouble we could always put in a sneaky bid for Charlton's Bradley Wright-Phillips - hopefully they are not playing against one another in the Championship next season.
