What Quinn? If its Niall Quinn you're on about, he's a joke of a pundit. Never makes any sense. I thought it was deffo a pen when I seen it first but having looked at the replay, it wasn't. Still, I can see how the Ref could have got it wrong. I put up a thread having a go at British punditry in general on our Board and it wasn't well received at all. I remain of the opinion though that its of piss poor quality and footie fans shouldn't have to put up with it.
I don't think anyone would claim british punditry to even be at an acceptable standard, though i don't think Gary Neville is bias when hes on air at all.
A lot of the boys on this thread do: http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/190064-Best-defensive-display-in-England RTE for all its faults has the football punditry nailed on.
Gary Neville is completely biased when the topic is Man Utd. When Man Utd aren't involved, he's pretty good. Niall Quinn is a complete tosser of a pundit. He has not analysis to speak of just boring patter that makes him sound like he isn't actually watching the game, just listening to his ipod while the wife's trying to talk to him. "Yeah... completely agree love"... "Absolutely..." Bla bla bla. He's a very biased pundit indeed, sometimes weirdly against former clubs like he has an axe to grind. Did I think the commentary was bias on Sunday? Not really. The half-time analysis had a bit too much focus on what Chelsea "got away with", but it was ok. I don't think Ramires was intending to win a penalty from his position, he was going to try and score, but when he'd taken a bit of a dodgey touch round the keeper, he saw Chesney Hawks sprawling at him and there really was "one and only" good option for him, to clip the goalie and go down. That's what he did. I think it's a fair enough penalty in truth, because while Ramires has clipped him, Chezzer has committed himself and missed the ball. While Ramires could have easily avoided it, why should he? If a striker sees a clumsy foot stuck out in his direction in the box, should he jump over it or take the touch? I don't see that as cheating personally. Cheating for me is going down without the touch.
Its that kind of attitude that has the game in the state its in. He clipped the keeper, not the other way round. It wasn't a penalty and its not a non-contact sport. Having said that, when I saw it in real time I was sure it was a pen so I don't blame the ref for getting it wrong. Its very difficult for them to see everything when they only have one angle to look from.
Rooney's penalty claim wasn't a penalty at all if anything Rooney was looking for it as he ran into the back of the spurs defender Caulker, Rooney's left leg kicks the back of Caulkers right leg.
On first glance, Rooney's and Chelsea's claims looked nailed on but on the replays, neither were penalty's because both players tried to con the ref.
Every independent media outlet has an editorial, that's the whole point of owning one. They all have a bias and it is the customers choice to use those sources. The BBC has bias too, but it tends to stem more from the journalists personal views which they are allowed to air so long as it is clear it is their opinion and not that of the BBC. The BBC employees are under government guidelines regarding editorial bias. They may not stick to them but if they don't the shareholders (us) can and have brought it into line. You can not do this with independents. An editor/owner there may change their promoted opinion but usually only because they noticed a wind of change and are changing their spots in order to sell more subscriptions. So if say Sky appears to be favouring a certain team or teams it is because it is financially to their advantage. They know they can't please everyone in such a partisan market as football fans, so the target the largest groups.
And conveniently managed to push his leg into the keeper to make the magic "contact" in the process! I hate that fu*king word. Its being used by pundits every week now to excuse players going down.
i know what your saying but it is impossible to know for sure how much contact was made, sometimes its obvious when a player makes a meal of it but other times you just can not tell, especially as the player is running flat out. what i hate the most is when players go down clutching their faces when the offending players arm or hand was no where near it just to try and get them carded, that really f*cks me off the most
This case is the perfect example. As I saw it it was an absolute, dead cert, nailed on pen. But when I saw the replay up close I realised I was wrong. So I have every sympathy for the refs. They have an almost impossible job. The rules they are given to implement are Mickey Mouse too. There's just too much ambiguity in there.
Ramires dove. A blatant one too without doubt. It happens at every club and it will be forgotten by next week.
Dove?? You bloody uneducated glory hunting bastard so typical of the single celled brains you have., are you Gazutd's son?
He might be a lot of things mate but he ain't glory hunting. He's a Liverpool fan! I wonder will they finish above West Brom this season. Or is it Swansea who are now their main rivals?
